Due to financial reasons I was considering selling my car and using amtrack when I want to visit home. Has anyone ever used amtrack before? Is it easy? safe? How is travel time? I’ve heard because it stops at every station that it takes a really long time. I’d love to hear from anyone who has used this form of transit before. Especially if you know around how long it takes to travel from Davis to the Antioch station. Thanks!

i have taken the Amtrak once, which was last month after the freshmen orientation. it is actually quite fast and comfortable in my opinion. travelling time varies, depends on where your destination is. Davis >>> SF took me around 1.5-2 hrs, since u gotta get off at Emeryville and interchange to a shuttle bus to get to downtown SF.
i do recommend the Amtrak, but its not that cheap either, one way of my trip costs $22.

Thanks Candy I appreciate it. That is a little pricey =/ The 'Student Advantage' cardholders get 15% off which is nice but its still a bit much. Anyone else have any suggestions for public transportation from Davis to the Bay Area and back?

Not too much different than it would cost in gas money.....

you can take the davis berkeley shuttle to berkeley and transfer to bart
the bus ticket is $8
here's the info...

Thanks guys =) Yeah I'll have to do the math next time I travel up there in my car. With Bridge Toll and gas I remember it being about $24 round trip but that might have been before gas went up.

I used to go on Amtrak from Davis to San Jose...it is definetly a LONGER trip than I imagined. They are delayed about half the times I have gone (either arriving or during the trip). But at least they have plugs inside the train so you can charge your laptop.

I absolutely DESPISE the San Jose Amtrak because they have been completely unhelpful everytime I need help with tickets or exchange. This is why I no longer take Amtrak and just drive instead.
