I was wondering how easy it is to get out of Davis if one does not have a car. I want to know if there are any modes of transportation which are relatively cheap that can get me to Fremont or Santa Clara.

i haven't personally taken it but have picked up some friends

amtrak train

Yea, I have looked into that, it is just a little too expensive for my budget.

greyhound buses is the only other affordable transportation i could think of...
Airline tickets could be affordable if you get them far enough in advance?

Well greyhound does not have a direct to Santa Clara.=( I wanted something that was direct (or easy transfer) and maybe $30 round trip. Any help would be nice.

Anybody else?

$30 trip? You might be in luck if youre a frequent commuter. If you buy the 10-ticket pass for Amtrak, it costs $154, roughly $15.40 per train ride. However this pass only lasts for 45 days so if youre not a frequent commuter you shouldn't get it.

$35 bucks is how much I pay for gas to get from Davis home to the Bay Area. Usually you can expect public transportation to cost 35+. One thing you consider is taking a shuttle to Berkeley, which runs twice daily, and then take BART to Fremont, and then light rail to Santa Clara. I know that sounds complicated but when I did it I paid 25 bucks I think.

Yea, thats good idea, i might just try that first and see what happens. I am also looking at time efficiency too, i want to get there quick, and i don't mind paying around 30 round trip.

Oh and where do you get the 10 ticket pass?

amtrak station (just request it)

There are no better deals that that right, doctorwho? i don't mind buying in advance, but i just want to use them and be cheaper. i think the 10-pass thing is what i will do, and see how it works out.
