Amtrak Station and Other Logistics

How convenient is the Amtrak station to the main campus and are there shuttles to take students there? Also, is it reasonable to take a class in Rush Rhees and then get over, in the ten minutes between, to the next class in Goergen Hall which is near the Computer Science Bldg? The buildings appear far away from each other on the campus maps.

Personally I ride the Amtrak Train frequently back home. It is quite convenient in that it’s not very far. However, there are no bus shuttles to the train station or to the airport. You just call a taxi to take you there or arrange another means of transportation. I have not used a taxi since freshmen year and it cost me like $13 to $15 then to reach the station.

Don’t worry about the distance of the buildings on campus. UR campus is very compact and getting to classes on time is one of the leasts of our worries. I lived in Sue B. freshman year and it takes exactly 6 to 7 minutes to go from there to Hutchison/Goergan Halls. So I’m sure it will even be faster from Rush Rhees. At minimum, you will have 10 minutes between classes (many times 15 or higher) and this is enough time to go where ever you need to go.

UR’s campus is compact and it is very easy to go from Rush Rees to Goergen Hall in the 10 minutes between classes. D2 does it all the time.

I don’t know if there are regular shuttles to the Amtrak station. I don’t think there are. The university may run special service if there are a lot of students leaving for train station at the same time. (They do this for the airport at Thanksgiving and Christmas.)

You may want to send an email to Campus Parking Services and ask. (Parking Services runs the shuttles.)

The train station isn’t far from downtown and you can get a cab to campus for $10 .

In what area of the country do you live? If you live in New England, there are cheap nonstops on USAir to Boston. Airport is a 10 min cab ride from campus.
