Amtrak

Anyone travel Amtrak frequently?

It seems this is the most reasonable way for my plebe to travel. Round trip ticket from NYC - Penns Station to Philly - Lancaster, PA starting at $84.

And if we buy the Student Advantage Card ($20/yr or $50 for 4 years), buy our ticket 3 days in advance, you can save 15%. This also does not have any black out dates around holidays.

Sometimes when the students are in uniform they get their tickets gratis. I don't know how this works and with what train lines.

I think KP10 bought a ticket out to grandpops but they did not punch it so it is reusable.

He said he only spent six bucks on the weekend so either he wasn't counting the train or the train trip was free......

But that wasn't Amtrak

there is a upper class girl on the sailing team from philly... she told me that she takes nj transit to philly because it is free.

and yea i only actualy used 6 dollars. damn LIRR they love to charge.... but the trick is comming back is to act like you are asleep... they pass over you most of the time.

Royce DM, given your northeast itinerary, Amtrak is probably also the fastest. For anything between New York and Washington, my experience on Amtrak has been as good as flying. You are also saving cab fare to the airport as well as the time and hassle of the transfer.

im just saying for the extra 30 min or so with nj trans. you get on free...

My s took Amtrak from NY to Downingtown (halfway between Philly & Lancaster) all 4 yrs he was at KP, usually didn't need to change trains in Philly as a lot of trains go straight through to Harrisburg. We heard about NJ transit, but it was just easier and faster to do Amtrak which made it worth the cost. Before he had a credit card I bought the tickets on-line and e-mailed the info to him, then he printed them out in a kiosk in Penn Station in NY.

Never got the student discount, the military ID worked as a discount too, even out of uniform (which you can do after you are no longer a plebe!). He liked riding it, usually ran into buddies at the train station, and either slept or watched DVDs on his laptop.

LFWB comes home on Amtrak all the time.

At the end of trimesters if he's on the Supe's List he gets to come home first class on Acela. Its worked every tri so far. :D

And I'm gonna poke your eyes out with a sharp pencil LFWBDad. Its not fair you get to see supe's list AND a sport. I'm going to get a good sport this tri. You wait & see. Ultimate Frisbee is gonna go on the back burner pal so look out. If I have to take boxing, I will! I didn't want to but you're forcing me into liking it. Double :D :D

Huh?

What is the "supe's list"?

you have lost me on this one? And why is JM so "upset"?

PLEASE EXPLAIN!

Heh... Because LFWB is the only kid who ever makes the Supe's list & I'm jealous. He makes like straight A's which doesn't happen at KP. He's not like our mere mortal children. LOL And my kid has never had a true sport. His sport was cancelled the year he went in (precision rifle). So he took up playing Ultimate Frisbee & Karate and I've not had anything to cheer for. I'm stuck in limbo. He'd better sign up for crew or something cool that I can get excited about. Or atleast make the Supe's list just once. :D

Actually, there are a good number of kids on the Supe's list. Its for Mids with a 3.5 or above. When you're up there you can pick them out because they wear a gold star under their eagle.

Jamz will get there.

SOoooooooooooooooooooo Glad you explained.

Yeah, no way, my son will never been one of those. <shaking head="" no=""> Not that I wouldn't be very proud of him, but I know him...</shaking>

My DS is gonna play tennis in the spring, does that count as a real sport?

the only real sport at a maritime academy should be sailing..........:)

damn straight...

then again intermurral monkey fist tossing would be a good sport also if they had it....

Ask Coach Alger what he thinks ;)

LOL son, get to school I am going for my walk and then to work.

And I hope PETA doesn't misunderstand your post!

ok i think i will... i have hime next week for self defence...

3.2 midterm here - may make the Sup list yet

Monkey Fist tossing was dropped as on official sport due to the multiple head wounds caused on a routine basis :)

The supe's list is attainable even if you aren't getting there as a plebe. Keep plugging away and look forward to the classes that are professional in nature and which tend to keep interest a bit more than 'Maritime Sleep Hour'. My grades first class year went significantly up, even almost got a 4.0 one trimester except for one stinking naval science class. How terrible is that, haha.

I was able to make the list multiple times and I had an 'F' and more than one 'C' on my transcript upon graduation. If you are struggling in a couple classes don't get down and realize it can only get better.
