That was interesting and scary.

@mass2020mom Agreed. It explains (I think) some of the horrifying parental behavior in my town.

A few points.

I was in high school in the 70’s. And there were several parents that had social hostings. They were not helicopter parents.

A parent today of financial means would be NUTS to host a social hosting party and assume all the liability of underage teenagers drinking. I do not have any friends that have ever hosted a party.

I went to a large university in the 80’s and we binged drank all the time. And it was to the excess that the author writes about only happens today. Of course it does. :slight_smile: And I did my homework every night and I was always respectful to my parents.

And the statement “the race to jump aboard the stem express” – We had the race for the M&A’s of Wall Street.

There has been some changes but it is probably more similar than different. And there were a lot less helicopter parents when I grew up

Actually, some were the exact opposite of helicopter parents, leaving older high school aged kids alone for a week or more at the house while the parents traveled.
