are they truly a "public" school? They have an admissions process- doesn't that make them a "public magnet" school? - Therefore, those kind of admissions are expected because they choose the kids that go to their high school. (And of course they choose the smartest ones :)! )A real public high school has to allow everyone from the surrouding community to go there. IF a real public high school had those kind of admit stats.. I would be shocked!!

Thomas Jefferson is one of the best high schools in the nation. This year i think like 15 of their students made USAMO. They have their own ARML team(s?). Definitely not your run of the mill high school :)

Thomas Jefferson is a selective magnet school. You have to get a high score on a test to get in. So its results shouldn't be compared with those of standard public high schools.

my school provides a site that provides detailed scores of people who got into or rejected from a college but no names.. so now I know that since my school deflates a bit someone with an 89 got into G-Town from my school etc

bobbobbob: Actually, 7. I think you missed the bottom 3.

TourGuide446: They used to suck, and will probably suck again, but this year they got to playoffs. So they don't suck right now. We own a lot of the other sports, though.

I go to TJ. It's great to see so many kids getting in to the schools they want to go to, but it sucks to be me. I'm sitting on a 3.85 W GPA and I know that I can't really compete for most top-tier schools, since so many kids from TJ have over a 4.0. Stanford, since they don't look at freshman grades, will probably see a flat 4.0 W, but nobody got in this year with below a 4.04.

It doesn't help that our grading scale is a bit harder than some others. APs give you an extra .5 to the year grade.
4.0 is 93.5-100
3.5 is 89.5-93.5
