I'm a sophomore at a target with an unspectacular GPA (3.0 - 3.5) with no prior finance experience aside from taking a finance class this semester. I'm striking out with OCR and the whole networking thing is not working out too great either.

Anyone know anything about the AnEx program? It's 3 weeks of modeling/valuation/etc. classes and a guaranteed 4 week internship at a PE/HF/boutique ibank. It's cheaper and seems way more legit than University of Dreams where I've heard the closest thing you get to Wall St is a PWM job. My goal for junior year is to get a IBD SA position at a BB. Is the AnEx program good prep? How selective is it?

Also, there was a thread that blasted on analyst advantage program about how their description of the participating firms aren’t legit. For example, they use terms like “leading investment bank” when the bank is a recent startup. Id think twice before participating in it.

Only select people at the firm that you’re interning with will know that you essentially “bought your way in”. Aside from that, no one else will ever know you went through the AnEx program.

It is worth it if:
you know for sure that without the AnEx program you will not be able to secure a summer internships
you can afford the $5000 price tag without too much of a hassle

Yeah I know what some of the participating firms are and it’s very “ehhhh…”. I guess I’m still playing the networking game. I talked to a few alums on the phone. One guys at a boutique said he’ll get back to me later this month. One guy just told me to just send my resume to HR; is it ok to namedrop him in my cover letter?

Another guy said his firm takes interns but didn’t ask for my resume and there’s only one general number listed on the site. Should I email him again or should I call the general firm number and ask to submit my resume (and namedrop him)?

If the 5k doesn’t matter to you I would say to go for it.

You can name drop in a cover letter like that. “After speak with so-and-so I have become very interested in pursuing an internship opportunity with XYZ…I was particularly intrigued by something from your conversation…”

Hi there, I did the internship last summer and I think I can answer your questions with my experience.

I did a 3 weeks training program and a 4 month internship with a hedge fund in my junior year. I learnt a lot about modelling though the training and the internship really helped me strengthen the skills.I got all the major banks interviews in the fall semester because of this experience. I would highly recommend the program if the 5000 is not an issue for you.
