Hello All,
I'm currently a High School student who is interested in Ancient Roman society and culture, especially their gladiatorial traditions as well as military history. My school does not offer any class in ancient cultures, so I plan on doing some kind of independent study of Ancient Rome. I was planning on emailing some professors at NYU and Columbia about possible research topics. I go to Italy every year and would like to do something productive while I'm there, perhaps conducting some kind of hands on research before doing a formal project.

Is this a good idea? Would it be better to just wait for college?

Thanks.

If you want to self-study it, go ahead.

You can do acadmicEarth -<a href=“Online College Courses & Accredited Degree Programs - Academic Earth”>http://academicearth.org/subjects/history
or this- [CMA SAS High School Courses](http://www.personalizededucation.org/schools/sas/academics/courses.html)

Just some ideas. Maybe you can talk with some teachers, and make this your history course.

Good luck!

You could also try studying it in an art historical manner. We learned a lot about Rome in art history, so if you could end up visiting some of the famous architectural or artistic locations, it might be extra-enriching.
