Hi miles, welcome to the board. We're glad to have you.

Is W&L your first choice? Send me a PM or IM (ForsbergsFan) :)

Dima and Willy Wonka...

Coingratz guyz!. Hey WW, so does this mean WLU has the edge over dartmouth now? hehe...

Hey Miles, nice meeting u.

Wow! Many, many congratulations to you two! That is so unbelievably awesome. Your brilliance must have convinced them to make an entirely new and higher level of scholarship :)

PS - I hate that there's no mail on Sunday!

I'm with Chris! It's rather tragic that we won't be getting mail today.... My friend Jen, who lives in Virginia, also got a full ride, which is super exciting! We're hoping to be roommates next year.

Wow...how many full rides did they award?

eek! i'm going to a movie at 1:20 so I won't get home til like 3:30 to check my mail. i'm going to be speeding so fast on the way home :)

I think there are 40 full rides, so take heart!

Well, the mail just came and I am, to put it mildly, ecstatic to report that I also got a full ride. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone else! Yay!

(And much happy dancing--embarassingly bad happy dancing--- ensued...)

~*~

Congrats Tegan, Early Decision represent!!!

Wow, three of us on the board so far, we rock. Slipstream, we're all rooting for you to be #4.

the mail still isn't here...but i do have a horrible pit in my stomach

i'll be convulsing and watching i love the 80s strikes back until it comes

.............................
the mail just came. quarter tuition.

:(

Congratulations Chris! That's still really awesome. Over four years that's still a hefty amount. Let us know where you decide to go-- it's nice that you'll be choosing between several schools who've thrown money your way, and in Vanderbilt's case it was a big scholarship. Vandy is on my list of grad schools since it has such an excellent law program. I'm sure no matter where you decide you'll be really happy. Obviously you're well-loved everywhere you applied. :-)

I echo Elissa's sentiments.

Quarter tuition is pretty good over four years, wait until you get your financial aid estimate before saying W&L will be too expensive. We'd all love to see you in Lexington next year but you have several great schools and financial offers to choose from and you'll be happy wherever you decide to attend.

Keep us updated.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. I forgot to tell you congrats, Elissa. It must be awesome knowing that you'll get to go to such a great school essentially for free. You have my greatest applause.

As to my future at W&L, I would have loved to attend but, unless my financial aid offer is amazing, it's looking to be increasingly doubtful. My parents have told me what they can afford per year and there's still a big gap between $6,900 and that number. Who knows, though, maybe the financial aid office will like me more than the admissions office :)

Y'all have my best wishes for the next four years and beyond; you are all truly phenomenal people and I only wish it would have been easy for me to say that I'll be joining you.

I have some important decisions to make about which college I'll be attending and I'll definitely fill you in when I finalize my plans.

Until then, go celebrate your incredible rewards for all the hard work you've done over the past four years!

-Chris

Don't give up Chris, W&L's financial aid office is known to be generous so you might get an offer that will make it easy to go.

Btw, Elissa, do you remember Isaac? The math genius from Kansas City? He got a full tuition award (Robert E. Lee Honor Scholarship). He still doesn't know where he's going though, waiting to hear from other schools.

I do remember him, although I didn't talk to him that much... seems like there were so many people I didn't meet. I'm not sure if you knew Daniel from Arizona, but he got half tuition and I was really excited to hear that. And I'm emailing Brighton from Zimbabwe and Alessandra from the Dominican Republic to see how they did. Did you hear from Christine or anyone else?

~*~

I didn't get to meet Daniel but I remember well both Brighton and Alessandra, I hope they did well.

Christine seems to be ignoring me and Josh isn't answering either, I'm gonna start pestering his girlfriend.

I got my financial assistance award letter today and it doesn't make much sense:

My W&L Scholar Grant here is about $2000 less than the amount listed on the grant letter and they included work study and loans adding all the way up to the $39,000. I would obviously prefer not to take the loans and since the stuff on teh card doesn't add up to the $39,000, I am kinda confused about everything so I'm going to give the financial aid office a call tomorrow.

Just a warning to other Scholar Grant recipients. I might actually switch from a single to a double (I haven't filled out rooming form yet). I didn't look as carefully at the card last time, the double is actually $1,500 cheaper.

Does anyone knowthe average annual cost of books? Like $1,000? I've always gone to public school so books have been provided for me for free.

Btw, Tegan, I finally reached Josh (from 'Bama) through his girlfriend, he got a full ride as well. He's trying to decide whether to go to W&L or stay in sweet home Alabama.

Dima, I was surprised about it too. But, I don't know, I have to call tomorrow after school to see what's up. I mean, the Lee Scholarship plus the grants is $2,500 more than the little card says attending (with a double room) will be-- obviously, the $2,500 is meant to go toward books and other expenses. The thing I don't understand is why they would offer loans and work study to make up another $2,000 or so. Maybe the work study was for "spending cash," in case the student wanted it, but I don't know about the loans. Maybe I've overlooked some huge expense that they believe it necessary to cover.

So they sent you the same thing? I sent them an e-mail with a ton of questions, I'm hoping they answer soon. I tried calling but couldn't get through.

Hey y'all! So the financial aid award didn't work out, but I've moved on. It's down to Vandy and UF for me now! Wish me luck in making my decision!

Dima and Bobby, I'm rooting for your financial situation to clear itself up to your benefit. Keep me up to date with everything!

Adios amigos.
