So I was accepted off the waitlist into Wharton, and my financial aid package comes out to $0 in grants.

If I appeal now, will I be getting any aid? Wharton would be a dream come true but I don't want to pretty much wipe out my parents' savings.

Hey neutralnuke

Congrats on your acceptance. By virtue of you getting into Wharton, I'm sure that the school you enrolled into is excellent as well. When everything is said and done, it is going to cost your parents a good $200,000. I have no idea how much you all have, but taking $200,000 from savings now is like having $700,000 less when they retire. I don't know their health, but it would not be wise to have no money for medical expenses if they happen to get ill. Perhaps they would be willing to retire at 75 rather than 65 to make up the difference? Bottom line... you are asking them to sacrifice their standard of living ...if Wharton is that important to you and your parents don't mind....go for it! But if you have another excellent school with better financial aid, that's what I would do if i were you.

I don't know if appealing will help you any... your best bet would be to weigh how much you like Wharton compared to the school you're already deposited at, and see if it's really worth the extra cost.

I was kinda scared but my parents support me. And I will be going to Wharton.
I checked with my regional representative, and he said that they probably made a mistake to have given me no aid at all. He said that this was possible since they made the fin. aid. decision in only 1 day.

So most probably, I will call on Monday and get my appeal.
