How do these schools softball programs compare?

The softball program at Hotchkiss is dreadful. It was 2-10 last year with 5 straight losing seasons before then, the best year being 5-10. Ugh. So if you are a great softball player, sure looks like THS could use you.

@PinkyBlue,
Here are all those schools varsity records last year.

Msex: 8-6
Hotchkiss:2-10
Andover: I couldn’t find them online, sorry
Choate:Again, couldn’t find

Many of the girls on the softball team at MX are serious players/pseudo-recruits. None of them got in for softball [as far as I know], but very few people outside of the team play softball, and it’s not a big program.

My D placed MSX high on her list. I’m concerned that it will be too small for her. Her middle school has nearly 900. Did you come from a large school? Do some students talk of the school being too small? How is the food?

Yeah, I came from a big school [800 i think]. But honestly, being in a small school has lots of benefits, and I don’t think I would have done as well in a big school. Coming into high school, I was shy and awkward. I had spent a full year at a new school with no friends nor academic challenge [due to a move], and it showed. Middlesex is a small school that has a strong focus on community. I think, had I gone to a larger school like SPS or Exeter, I could have very easily fallen through the cracks. Another bonus: faculty in a small school have a greater opportunity to be close to students.

The food up to now has ranged from decent to bad. However, as a matter of fact, Middlesex has just switched food providers [from Aramark to Flik], so I’ll keep you updated on the food.

My interviewer at hotchkiss told me their softball program was very weak. To this I reapinded that I just want to play softball no matter what the team is like!

Thanks for the responses. My D has played club for years, but is considering trying a new spring sport if she attends MSX or THS. I think she should aim for a better softball program, but I will not be the one going.

Of these listed Andover has the stronger program by far. I think almost all the varsity girls play travel ball. The C has committed to Yale, last year’s starting P is at Columbia now. They aren’t as deep as teams from California or Texas but the level of play is pretty good for high school.
