Andover v. Exeter v. Milton

I had my revist on the sixth, it was amazing

My tour guide was very friendly and almost everyone I met stopped and said hi or "hope you come next year"

The classes were a lot of fun, and the harkness method seemed to truly incorporate every student, we even had some free time to shoot some pool :D

Really?

My student host seemed annoyed to have to show me around the school...
And I think this one junior mocked me when I said "Hi" to her.

Lovelskye,

There are many reasons to choose one school over another but being "talked into it" by others is not one of them. People who have not attended or even visited the schools have no intelligent reference to go by and therefore are probably just looking at the prestige factor. My children know two kids who have been waitlisted who would commit heinous acts to have the privilege to attend Exeter. One girl is on this board frequently and she was admitted to St. Paul's and Andover as well. Don't take their opportunity away if you're decision is to merely appease others.
Exeter is the most demanding academic environment of the schools you considered, and if you are unsure of your desire to go....You have until the 10th to honorably back out! Good luck with your decision :).

I agree with your reasoning, blueliner. It really should be a personal feeling that you have when you visit the campus.

Anyways, lovelyskye, see you in Exeter! Go big red.

Yep :) I'll see you at Exeter

Lovelyskye, did you do the questionnaires and course registrations yet?

What language are you going to take? I'm taking Latin. :)

Hmm...I never received a questionnaire or course registration. Are these sent to you after they receive your enrollment? Because I just sent mine via express mail this morning :P

I want to take both Chinese and French as languages. Chinese, because I am Chinese! :D I sort of have a grasp on it, but I only know how to read and write very few characters...But since it should be easier for me to learn (I can speak it pretty fluently, and don't have a problem with the phonetics), I want to take up French as well.

Yea, they give you a site you logon to after they receive your enrollment.

Do you know how hard Latin is in Exeter?

Hi :D The following is just my personal opinion of what reflects my personal opinions about these three schools...

Andover: Great rep, seemed unfriendly and cold to me, same size as Exeter but seemeed way to big, the camppus is nice, but has really ugly buildings and really nice buildings (man, I hate the 70's, it detroyed all beutiful Prep school campuses with just one ugly building) Nice town, stuff to do

Exeter: Great rep, really friendly, more courses (in number and diversity) big school with smaller feeling, BUILDINGS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! The library is ugly on the outside, but still awesome, and the athletic center is gross, butt all the other buildings seemed great! Exciting, but gross town. Nice peopple in town I think.

Milton: Bad rep with alot of parents because of scandal, used to be more selective then Andover and Exeter, not now though. Deval Patrick, current gov. of MASS went their on FA :D Go Dems, wonderful class, couses, I think poeple, nice campus, cose to Boston and cape, is in fancy rich town, which is really fun. You can go fancy million+ dollar house hunting! Just Kidding. Best college matric of three by a large margin (not that that really matters, to me anyway) Only 50% boarding, which can be good in the sense there are alot of people who know the area, and know where to go. Also, in my opinion, Milton is large enough where there will still be tons of boarders on campus anyway, it isn't exaxtely a small school in boarding school standards.
I, personally, would Choose Exeter or Milton, because of fit, but Andover is amazing too!. :D Hope this helps. If you thought the kids were best at Milton, then go there :D

andover/exeter, i bet my mother's house that pretty much any class at exeter is "hard." If you're not challenged, they'll most probably move you to a higher level. :)

I just want to clarify college acceptance issue re milton versus andover and exeter. Milton has a big percentage of fac kids from boston schools such as harvard.

I've heard what drnancie says about Harvard faculty kids at Milton.

Ya, you guys are right about that re. Milton....

"Do you know how hard Latin is in Exeter?"

At my revisits many of the kids said that latin was one of the hardest courses, but those who took it said it was very fun, I plan on taking Latin, at least for my first year

The questionarre was just to find placement if your planning on applying to a class requiring a test

Please keep posting! :)

If you have any questions regarding Andover, I'd be glad to answer them. Besides that, I think you need to focus on where you want to go, not where everyone else wants you to go. I know it's a tough decision, but it sounds like you'll be happy no matter what school you wind up at.

When I was researching schools, I went to www.ratemyteachers.com . Obviously, it is biased, and you shouldn't take all the ratings at face value. However, it does give you a feeling for how the students interact or don't interact with their teachers. Take a look at your 3 choices prettyckitty.

Help! Only a few more hours.

Exeter. 'Nuff said. ;)

What school are you leaning toward?
