Any thoughts the differences and relative strengths of each school?
My impression is that while Lawrenceville is outstanding from an academic viewpoint, Andover is the more academically intense environment.
I think they are probably both pretty intense. And intensity depends on the person. It’s is often self inflicted.
Academics are about the same between both schools. Andover does not have Saturday classes where Lville does.
The STEM program at Lville is also weaker than Andover. Empirically, the sports teams are of higher caliber at Lville.
Lville prides itself on the Harkness and therefore focuses more on writing, analysis and close reading.
Andover is a far richer school and therefore more generous with aid. It’s also a bigger school and has more resources. But along with this you’ll be competing with top students. Will you be able to stand out?
Either school is a fine choice and you can’t go wrong.
Lawrenceville is in a great location, very close to Princeton and about halfway to NYC and Philadelphia. Granted, Andover is also pretty close to Boston but winters are milder compared to New England.
“Empirically, the sports teams are of higher caliber at Lville.”
Not so sure on this, just compare the results of boys swimming and diving teams on both schools this past season…
