for my andover writing assignment, most of my school’s assignments and stuff are online, and the teacher doesn’t really edit or revise anything… but i heard that i’m supposed to show the revising and editing and even the grade for that assignment. how am i supposed to show everything? do u think it would just be okay for me to hand in the online assignment without showing the revisions? thank you in advance!
In fact, they don’t care about grades on that assignment, they just compare yours with your applicant essays to see if you wrote the applicant essay yourself, not others.
I’m currently in my upper (11th grade) year at Andover. I was in a similar situation to you @kxmkxm. It was my understanding when I submitted that the graded writing sample is requested in order to see how you write about a school subject area rather than the more personal application essay questions. Now it’s possible that I was mistaken or that they’ve changed your policy in the last two years, so I would submit any revisions/comments you have, but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker if you don’t have it. If you were otherwise going to be accepted, you wouldn’t be rejected just because of that. If you have any other questions, about this or anything else about Andover or the application process, feel free to shoot me a PM!
It not be a deal breaker, they don’t want/need items that they do not ask for.
Really, don’t read between the lines. This is good experience for when you apply to colleges. If a school wants something, it will tell you what it wants. No school will ask you to read between the lines. So if a school does not ask for a revised essay reflecting changes made after the teacher commented, then it does not want it. Similarly, it does not want your first draft before it was graded. It wants the version that was graded along with any teacher comments.
For applicants accepted to Andover, it will also give you good practice for what to expect once at Andover, as the opportunities to improve one’s grade via rewrites/extra credit/etc. are limited.
Well, now you’re asking for us to read their minds?
I don’t think they look down on it; it’s certainly a valid genre. If you’ve already submitted, then it’s a moot point. If you have yet to submit it, perhaps ask your teacher if s/he feels this is the best representation of your work. Regardless, let’s not further hijack the OP’s thread with your questions
