Anesthesiology residency

Is an anesthesiology residency a harder one to get into? After residency would an anesthesiologist be more likely to join a group or a hospital?
Thanx

See the ASA newsletter at <a href="http://www.asahq.org/Newsletters/2006/05-06/grogono05_06.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.asahq.org/Newsletters/2006/05-06/grogono05_06.html</a></p>

Anesthesia is indeed one of the harder residencies.

I can't speak for the whole country, but in my area, most service is by groups that have exclusive contracts with hospitals. A very small number have their anesthesiologists as hospital employees. The military hospitals have positions where there are civilian anesthesiologists who are independent contractors.
