Animal science (Pre-vet) track Chance me on UCs and others

Hey guys! I am planning to major in Animal Science and go on pre-veterinary track. I know some colleges I listed do not have Animal Science major but I am planning to major in Biology or similar field. These are my stats and colleges I want to apply. Please give me feedbacks so I can improve!

Safety

  • Kansas State University
  • Purdue University
(Both have 7 yr vet program but I dont know if I can get in)

Match

  • UC DAVIS
  • Cal poly SLO
  • UC Santa Barbara
  • UC San Diego

Reach

  • Tufts University
  • UC Berkeley
  • UC LA
  • Cornell (i know its impossible but hey we only get one chance might as well use it :))

Stats:

Junior
Asian female
Large, very competitive school in California
Class Rank: my school doesn’t rank

SAT: Didn’t take but planning to take SAT subject test (Math2 and Chem ) in June

ACT: 32 composite, E-33 M- 35 R- 28 S- 33
(Reading brought composite down :frowning: will take another one this summer or next fall)

GPA: UC weighted- 4.19
UC weighted and capped- 4.11
Weighted- 3.98
Unweighted- 3.75
The reason why UC GPA is way higher than others is because my freshman year messed up my GPA so much and UC don’t count freshman yr. I do have strong upward trend from 3.5 GPA freshman yr to 4.5 w 4.0uw GPA this year

Classes: (took tons of honors classes but my school doesn’t do weighted GPA for honors)
APs: AP Biology (10th) - 4
AP English Lang (11)
AP Calculus BC (11)
AP Chem (11)
AP Statistics (12)
AP Literature (12)
Medical terminology- college credit
Medical internship- college credit

  • Counselor- don’t really talk to my counselor

Thank you so much! Any improvement suggestions are welcome. Also, how competitive are 7 year vet program?

Don’t count yourself out of Cornell. Your stats put you in the lower half of applicants to Cornell but your passion for animal science shines through your ECs. If you ED there, write essays that convey WHY you want to study animal science and why Cornell would help you, and score 700+ on the 2 subject tests, than I think you have a good shot.

Do CALS ED at Cornell and you might have a good shot.

@doorrealthe @Bjklw2a Wow! I did not expect that at all! Yes, I will def do ED at Cornell since Cornell and UC Davis are my dream school. Thank you so much

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 14%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 44%
UCSB: 54%
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
UCSC: 85%
UCR: 94%
UCM: 96%

I would put UCSD- High Match/Low Reach

You look like a competitive and qualified applicant for most of the schools on your list. I think your Reaches are still Reaches but best of luck.

Make sure you knock first quarter of senior year out of the park! This means that you should get straight A’s in challenging classes to offset your relatively low GPA.

@doorrealthe Got it. Thanks :slight_smile:

Still looking for more opinions on 7 year vet program!! Is it worth applying? how competitive is it?

For Kansas State the seven year program is through the Early Admission Program. I have been accepted into that program starting undergrad this fall. My stats are similar to yours. I am a Certified Vet Assistant and had around 300 hours in a vet clinic when I applied. I also had a lot of animal experience playing polo and polocrosse and teaching horseback at summer camp as a counselor. My GPA is a little higher and my ACT a little lower. The volunteer at the senior center you have will be good too since they like people experience also. If you want any more info message me.

Hi! I am interested in starting my own animal/zoology ckub at my school and I was wondering what activites you did while in that club and if it was fun and what are some activities I could do if I started my own club. Thanks!

Hi! I was only in zoology cub for two years but we had guest speakers from different professions come during lunch and watched different documentaries too. Our zoology class has annual trips to aquarium and zoo and club members were allowed to participate in that too. Hope this helps!
