Lets face it- No one was watching the planes. Speaking for the gals, all eyes were focused on the Tom-cat himself. The rest is just- metal.;)

That was pretty much my sister's opinion, my brother still breaks out into peals of hysterical laughter watching Tom in his "tighty-whities."

Tom cruise is hot and all, but what compells me to watch it over and over is Gose...no, no...there's two 'o's in Goose.

I still cry when he dies, no matter how many times I see it. :(

now everytime i see Top Gun, and they sing "you've lost that loving feeling" to whats-her-name in the bar, all i can think of is my CWV when a couple tables of mids sang that to me at lunch..sooo funny!

Ah yes, but those big old, hard to fly, two-seater bad-boy air to air F-14 Tomcat's are about to be made history in favor of a lighter, easier to fly F-18 that is more suited to ground targeting actions.

Tomcat will clean the SuperBug's clock any day of the week and three times on Fridays.

Shoot them down while the bug is wondering what's going on. Phoenix is a wonderful thing! :D

In our family Val Kilmer is ALWAYS refered to as Iceman, we were looking at a poster with his picture on it and my little sis (4yrs old) screams "hey it's Iceman!." She can still belt out Danger Zone on a prompt.
As for the singing, we did that at NASS, that was an interesting experience hehehe. Top Gun was a fun movie, it had everything you could ever want except a plot. Jets, women, rock n roll, danger, all makes for a great movie :)

THE DAY HAS ARRIVED! LET THE POSTS FLY!!!

(hey, do you think they'll show James Franco in any of those tighty-whities???? :) )

I have a game so I can't go see it, but if anyone does...you know what to do.

It got like the worst ratings ever on movies.com, critics gave it like a D and pro reviewers C-.

Oooooo! Intrigue! Mailmail, whatcha ya'll up to hmmmm?? If you have some secret orders you'd like for us to follow, we are awaiting your direction great leader! I won't let you down.

Don't ever listen to the critics. They like some of the worst movies!

F/A18 is really an attack plane; F-14 (and its ilk) are fighters. Two very different missions with two very proud communities. The attack folks don't like it much when people call them fighter pilots. F-14s fly mostly CAP missions while the attack dogs get down in the dirt with bombs. When they coordinate together, it is a beautiful thing to behold!

Got to say the fighter guys were better looking than the attack guys, at least the ones I saw! LOL. Some pilots from my squadron (VA-122) were around Miramar/North Island while they were filming Top Gun. They came back all grumpy, claiming Kelly McGillis gay. I'm sure it was their egos talking when she wouldn't give them the time of day!

of course. . .

Read roger eberts review of this movie....

he says, "this is the type of movie where you get dialogue like

"you can't make it!"
"i've been getting that my whole life"

just got back from seeing it, with 13 of my closest friends!

i did like it, although of course i got pretty annoying while i was whispering all of the inaccuracies out loud. i think it was more about boxing than the actual Academy, and to be honest i expected it to be more about the Academy experience as a whole. i wasn't totally disappointed though, because come on, it's james franco. all my friends left the theater telling me that i "have to go there".

however, i can totally see why USNA didn't support it.

I Just saw it too. Couldn't agree with Shawna more. I also expected it to be more about the Academy, but boxing took over the plot. I was a little disappointed with the way the portrayed the Yard too, I think it's much prettier in real life. Overall tho, it was pretty good.

YES, Alli, i think that a lot of what was missing was the beautiful campus, Annapolis itself, and the "atmosphere" of the Academy.

haha, i forgot: navy2010, unfortunately they did not show james franco in tighty-whities, just some guy named "estrada" who ended up getting separated for honor.

shawna- got to see those tighty whities for myself tonight afterall- they looked just aweful if I might add- and I agree with your critique of the movie- overall ok, it moved and I liked it, but disappointed that it was not more focused on the academy, and very, very dissapointed that it was not filmed there- but some things they got right- some of the rates, sleeping on top of the blue magnets, table salt--- still getting confused as to when you say "yes" and when it's an "aye-aye,"....but I did like James Franco! And those uniforms really do look sharp! (even if not entirely accurate)! What was with the father though? Wanted to shake him up and drop him for 20!!

Damn, I really wanted to see this movie but after reading folks comments here, I think I'll pass. Really too bad. How could any producer/director in their right mind, pass up the opportunity to do a movie on that place with cooperation of DON? Unbelievable.

I could not agree more. A missed golden opportunity. But don't give up on seeing it yet- there were some redeeming moments-
