Many, Many major theaters here aren't showing it. True flop predicted here.

The AMC Fenway theater didn't! I was so mad! We had to go to the Loew's Boston Common one...definitely not as convenient as Fenway.

Sadly, only a few showing it here as well- and for an opening night, Friday no less, the theater was more than 2/3 empty! But then again it was the 8pm show- maybe things will pick up later! While it was not what I expected/hoped, it was not a total waste either. I still plan on taking the Torpedo to see it when he comes home next week.

Yeah, I couln't believe Fenway didn't have it, along with lots of others. You had to look pretty deep into most zip-code listings near 'liberal-town' on movies.aol.com.

I got a kick out of this review:

"I agree this is a very dull movie and a wasted effort. The thing that gets me is the aircraft carrier and jets seen in the preview (and on the poster) are NOT even in the film! I guess the marketing guys thought they could stick some Navy stock footage in the trailer to get it to look more interesting. I'm glad I didn't pay to see this film, and I'm from Maryland too. "

I felt like it was a bad boxing movie with a poor Naval Academy motiff.

I thought it was OK...

It seems they took the script for Officer and a Gentleman and just changed AOCS to the USNA.

BTW...I recall finding the Table Salt online somewhere...does anyone know where I can find it?

Nevermind...after searching for a while, I found it...

for anyone who is interested

I saw it last night with about 5 Marines in the theater total. I liked it, sure i was a bit turned off by the academy inaccuracies, but it was still a fun movie. The table salt was interesting, but my mom spent the rest of the night making it clear that if i didn't like it there i wasn't to jump out of a window.

Also, did anyone hear the last line of the movie?

Franco: "what do you think would've happened if the fight went another round?"
Gibson: "Come join me in the Marines and find out"

hmmmmmm,

Rosa

Has anyone read "A Sense of Honor", by James Webb? I haven't yet seen the movie ( mostly because I'm removed from CONUS at the present time ), but it seems like a faulty revision of that novel. From all the reviews I've been reading, the plot focuses upon boxing, and a renegade plebe, much like the novel, whose plot has boxing and plebe "education" as main themes ( though for arguably much different purposes - the book focuses upon the academy, while it seems like the movie focuses upon Huard ). Comments?

I also noticed something that might have been a major turn off for the academy. in the movie, Jordana Brewster tells James Franco that Mids do not view women as equals. That alone would be enough to make the academy drop all support. When A Sense of Honor came out, James Webb was banished from the academy for over 10 years because of the controversy over women at USNA.

i thought the movie was pretty good but i would have thought they were filming the marine corps or boot camp cuz it seemed pretty harsh what the officers were doing to the cadets. jordana brewster is HOT!!!

I saw it...I agree with Swillz.

I thought the movie was a big waste of time. It was about a frat relationship and boxing...this could have happened at any other college....very disappointing. I am glad DON and DoD did not support it, as there was clear evidence that this movie did reflect USNA in an appropriate manner.

I am currently reading A Sense Of Honor, I really like it!

Hey Boston, we got Coco!

Going to see the movie in 30 minutes...not expecting much.

OK folks
Peskemom, dad alum '72, and class of '10 daughter just got home

Here's our comments:
Dad alum: "They should have called it UNapolis!"
Class of 2010: "That was so pathetic and lame!"
peskemom: "At least for 2 hours I forgot about my headache!"

We had 100+ folks in our sat. afternoon showing...more than some seem to be reporting, but heck - we live in San Diego County, which is pretty military friendly.

It isn't even playing in our town!

We saw the movie last night in Annapolis with about 100 +/- Mids/Plebes. I would call it a rip off of Officer and a Gentleman & Rocky -- even the musical score sounded eerily like Officer and G. I personally enjoyed listening to the cackles and roaring laughter from the mids/plebes more than the movie. It's an okay movie I guess, better still because of no sex, no swearing, & no violence (unless you count boxing).

Spidermom -- i KNOW!! i'm so excited. i'm sooooo getting a "Crisp" shirt, (now that i can't wear my Damon one...) because i am in love with that guy's name. "Coco Crisp"...pretty sweet.
