Another AP Question

Reading over the university's website, I think I know the answer to this, but I promised my son I'd get clarification, so I'm asking the mavens.

Can you get credit for BOTH Environmental Science and Biology? It appears to me that the answer is no, but with the Bio exam scheduled for Monday, we'd like to be certain. I don't think it will change the attempted effort, but it may lessen the stress somewhat. ;-)

Yes:

[2009-2010, AP/IB Credit, Freshmen, Undergraduate Students, WCAS, Northwestern University](http://www.wcas.northwestern.edu/advising/freshmen/credit/apib/2009-2010.html)

So, now I’m even more confused. You can get the credit for each class with a 5 on the exam, but it’s NOT applied to your distribution credit?? Can you please explain what that means?

Sorry to sound so clueless, this doesn’t appear straightforward to me at all, but perhaps I am making it more difficult than it really is.

Yes, you get credit.

No, it’s not useful for anything but placement and graduating early/having advanced standing (though this does not actually give you anything).

Clearer now?

okay so… i’m in SoC as an r/tv/f. As far as getting AP credit, should I only be concerned with my distribution credits, which only apply a maximum of 2 AP scores?

or should I also be looking at the “regular” credits for WCAS for whatever reason (are there general ed requirements not part of the distros)?

arbiter213, thank you. Yes, you have made it much clearer, and I appreciate it. Kinda worthless in my son’s circumstance, but at least we now have the answer!

Glad to help.

It’s not worthless though! It DOES count towards the 45 credits required for graduation, if you want to graduate early.

Plus you show up in the directory higher than you should, so honor socities might invite you early.

No, I understand the benefits, I’m just saying they’re not particularly meaningful in our situation. Graduating early is not something my son is looking to do, majoring in Theatre, with, hopefully, a Musical Theater Certificate. And Honor Society invitations, while nice, are not a specific goal at this juncture.

I can see how, for some, the credits are meaningful, even if they don’t apply to the distribution requirement.

Thanks again!
