AP credits

Hi, I am taking AP Calculus (AB) and Statistics in a few weeks, and I am planning on majoring econ. I know majors change but I am definitely not going anywhere near science/math. So, does this still mean I have to take some/a few courses of science and math even if I get 4,5's on AP exams? Does NU take AP credits into account or do they not matter? Thanks in advance!

You have to take some math/science to meet the Weinberg distros in Area I and II, because you can only count a total of 2 AP credits towards them.

Oh, so my AP credits do count in college, right? thanks!

Should also note that the difference between a 4 and a 5 on Calc AB is the difference between getting credit for Math 220 and Math 220+224. Study hard!

**Hi! I have one more question. I just skimmed thru NU’s chart of recognition for ap credits. What is the difference between course credits authorized and distribution credits authorized?

Also, each of the two AP credits you apply towards fulfilling distribution requirements must be in separate Areas. So, you will probably need to take another math or science course.

Course credit means you get an actual course equivalency for a high AP score. Distro credit means you may or may not get the course specifically, but you get some generic credit that can go towards your distributions (cf. US History, which I have elective credit for, but still count towards area IV, I think).

Oh, okay! Thank you, mooble and sirsteveh ;)

Sorry to hijack, but I have a question - when it says “none” under distro credit, does that mean I can’t apply the class to my distribution credits at ALL? I’m in the Comm., which runs off of three distro areas (two classes in Math/Science/Technology, Social/Individual Behavior), but when looking at the WCAS list, it implies that there are NO distro credits given for AP Bio or AP English Lang/Lit. I’m confused, since these are a) popular courses and b) seem to very much apply to two areas. Am I missing something, or do students really not get distro credits for English or Bio classes?

no ap distribution credit for english or bio :(

Just be glad you’re not a transfer student being told your real college classes don’t mean jack. ;)
