another chances thread...

Asian male, in-state

SAT: 2190 (750CR 770M 670W)
SAT II: Math2 760 Chem 780 Phys 760

AP: Statistics 5 CalculusAB Chemistry

GPA: 3.5UW 4.1W

EC: Track and XC

State residency (or in the case of WPI, even country of citizenship) doesn’t matter. You are definitely in, probably with a moderate scholarship ($15-22k). WPI looks highly upon athletes, especially if you did varsity. Otherwise, your EC’s appear to be average for WPI. Source: I am Asian (Indian) and had very similar but slightly better stats to you and applied and am now a student.

The more I read some of these “chance me” threads, the less impressed I am the students posting them. You can easily look up on various web sites including most schools what are the average SAT scores, GPAs, etc that will get one into that school. Many sites even give a range of some kind for these scores.

No one on this, or any other, board will be able to give any applicant any kind of true indication whether they will be admitted to any school (other than you’re way out of your league).

I prefer to see people make informed decisions. Go do your research. Don’t just throw a question over the wall and say “chance me”.

In whatever your choosen profession is, if you do your research and make those informed decisions, you’ll probably do very well. Otherwise, . . . .

aw Puck, he’s just looking for a little encouragement
Reading it on some stat sheet is not nearly as satisfying as hearing from students at the school that they are in the ball park.
That said, I would hope he had done his homewrok and knew it was likely he would get a nod.

I was also a bit curious about how much money I would probably get from the school.

Hard to say how much money. You need to fill out the FAFSA forms. There is a formula that is used to figure out your parent’s contribution. WPI is OK with their merit money, IMHO.

We live in CA and make too much money to get any need based aid. The financial aid person called and we talked briefly. They ended up giving my daughter merit aid that made it about the same as the cost of a UC. She ended up choosing WPI over one of the middle range UCs.

There is no known formula for merit aid. It is an expensive school. Any aid will help and I suspect you would get a decent amount of merit aid with your stats - however there is no way to know until you apply and get your acceptance letter - that will come with a merit offer (or if not it will follow very shortly) Good luck
It’s a good school for hard workers.
