another chances thread

I've posted here many many times but I will try one last time because I finally calculated my UC gpa.

3.75 uc gpa
1480 single sitting SAT I (780m 700v)
720 SAT II Writing
700 SAT II Math IC
690 SAT II US History
Christian Club 4 years treasurer
Sunday School Teacher
Youth group leader
Track Team 2 years
School Newspaper 1 year
Volunteer hospital work 228 hours

Out of state (New York) Asian
Thanks guys!

id say reach cuz
1. you're out of state
2. you're uc gpa is below average
3. sat i score is good, but sat ii are about average
4. good volunteer hours, but you need some more leadership

but this is only my opinion and it really doesn't matter what i think whatsoever so anyway....

i wish you luck =)

yea diablo fan is right. If u were in state, i would say match/slight reach. Also, ur UC GPA is below average. Yet, who knows, a good essay might get u accepted.

Yep.

Being out of state is the killer. Only a very minute percentage of out-of-state students get offers. There me an outside chance that your particular app rocks their socks though...good luck bud.

...oops wrong thread

fearfulliving:

UCLA: Reach (out of state)

Woah guys. It turns out I calculated my UC gpa wrong. It's actually a 4.09 gpa.

Out-of-State! Oy!

Sorry to say, your chances plunge when you're an out-of-state student. You're competing in a very competitive applicant pool; your SAT IIs were the same scores as mine, except 700 Writing, 720 US Hist, 690 Math IC. However, I'm an in-state applicant and there are various other differences.

Did you participate in a summer program at UCLA per chance? If you're a junior, try Summer Discover at UCLA; you take UCLA classes and live on campus during the summer time.

How in fact do you calculate the UC GPA. It seems kind of like a standard they go by, but many schools use different 4.0 scales. My school uses the 1-100 scale (no weighted grades, but all classes are honors). How would I go about doing that conversion?

A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F = 0

For AP's and UC-Approved Honors or College Level Classes

A = 5
B = 4
C = 3
D = 1
F = 0

In both cases, no credit is granted for D's of F's (in terms of fulfilling the requirements).

They calculate your GPA for your 10th and 11th grade years, granting at most 8 semesters of classes with the extra points iin AP.

So since I had grades of 92 or higher in every class sophomore and junior year, that would mean my UC GPA is 4.0? Even though my average of my classes is only a 94.5? I have all honors classes (english, history, math, science), so that would also mean 8 of my classes would be 5.0?

It depends on your letter grade.

Only 8 semester of your 24 semesters. It changes if you're not on the semester system though.
