Another Cheating in South Korea?

Some Korean private SAT prep companies are distributing 2014 June Domestic SAT to students (I do not know how they got access to this), claiming that it will be recycled for the 2015 January. I sent e-mail to College Board, hoping they may take a preventive measure. I know this may be a rumor without substance, but having actually seen some of the companies asking students for few thousand dollars and actually giving them the recycled SAT in advance, I refuse to stay silent.

This could be true. The exam materials would have already been sent to South Korea because the SAT is next week; it is likely that someone has already looked at the exams and realized that they match the June SAT. If so, South Korea’s SAT scores will all be invalidated… Once again.

The College Board must stop recycling tests. So sick of this.

Cheating is not correct. It is dishonest. If you think that life will be like that you are wrong. I know that some Koreans work hard.

I am a Korean student from Canada, and I would like to say that while I do not know what is going on in Korea with all the cheating, a few rotten apples shouldn’t spoil the entire barrel because the Korean students here in Ontario study very diligently without the need to cheat.

If this is true, I will be truly sorry for the students who prepared diligently and ethically. Can’t CB do something else besides invalidating Korean SAT scores? I know it remains to be seen if this is actually true though.

CB must stop recycling tests.

I thought that Koreans and Asians in general were really bright and didn’t need to cheat. All the while this has been going on? I was fooled.

Don’t think in general. Most of them are really smart. They prepare so hard for this test. There are others, the cheaters, who are dishonest.

The cheaters are a small (but rich) minority.

Sadly,CB indeed recycled their June 2014 paper today at Singapore and HK…

urm…wait a minute…did they really recycle it?cause i only heard this from some Chinese friend. But on a second thought,CB won’t be so stupid to do that…

Gosh, the SAT test paper of June 2014 has long been available in the Internet. It is really unfair since a large part of test takers have already used it as practice test!!
I don’t know what measure will CB take to solve this problem.

Well, if CB indeed recycled the June 2014 test in HK and Singapore, CB must by all means cancel the suspicious scores. Please notify the test makers via e-mail and phone calls.

The only real solution to cheating may be to administer non-recycled tests at proctored facilities on US soil. Besides the inexcusable recycling phenomenon, I worry that foreign administration sites may be subject to compromise.

@ConcernedK
So how did CB reply you? To which e-mail address did you send your e-mail to CB?

CB did not reply. Out of four warning e-mails I sent to CB in the past year, I only got a single response, and it was rather nonchalant. I feel like more people should pressure the administration of the CB to stop this hideous recycling.

I don’t know but some said that this test was recycled from Nov 2010. CB must stop that.

I dont know if they cheated again this time, but if they did, it really is unfair. Im Korean myself, and I dont mean to doubt anyone (because I know some Koreans there who really do study hard and deserve the good scores), but those who cheat and take the SAT apply to schools in the US (why else would they take the sats) are more likely to get accepted, which makes it much harder for Koreans here in the US who really study a lot to get accepted. Honestly, Collegeboard needs to do a better job dealing with this issue.

This time different test centers had different test paper. Test centers in Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Macau and so on used test paper recycled from test paper of Nov 2010 of Asia. It is OK since no one get the test paper before hand.
The serious problem is that Hongkong and Singapore used test paper recycled from test paper of 6 2014 of Asia, but that paper is directly available in the Internet and many students have already written that paper as practice. It is really unfair.
I am wondering why CB will use the same test paper in such a short period, and in the same area!! Can’t it just recycle some domestic paper for Asian students?
