I just had a couple quick questions. I got a B in my stat 250 class and I was wondering should I take it again to get an A in it so I can have a 4.0 in all my prerequisites classes? Also can someone tell me about testing out of my language, the person hasn't responded to my email. Any info is greatly appreciated. Also what should I take in place of "COMM 1800 Making Business Work" at GMU (dunno if anyone would actually know this)

Regarding your language, you have to remember that you are not a matriculating student at UVa. Meaning you have not been accepted, hence you cannot take a placement test. Have you looked into taking a placement exam at GMU?

I checked the transfer credit for GMU with UVa and did not see an equivalent listed for COMM 1800. I would contact McIntire directly.

As far as retaking your STAT 250 course that is your decision. However it is STAT 350 at GMU that is equivalent to STAT 2120 the prerequisite course you need for McIntire.

thanks for the response there is no optout test for the language I want to do it for at GMU. I was looking over the stat prereq again and saw that the first stat class isn’t a prereq directly but I guess since you have to take it to do the second class it would make a difference, I emailed some1 for some more info. Thanks though!

DON’T retake the class!

I just had a seminar with a Dean at the college and someone asked this question! She responded by saying that it is never wise to retake a class because the second grade you got will not factor into your GPA at all and you will not receive additional credits for it. The only way it would factor into your GPA is if you actually failed the class the first time.

According to the Transfer Credit Analyzer, GMU doesn’t have any courses that correspond with UVa’s COMM 1800:

Can math 1310 ( harder version of math 1210?) satisfy the calculus requirement for mcintire? Also, is math 1310 really that hard compared to calculus AB?

i dunno if your high school teacher ever let you use a calculator, but at UVA, there are no calculators allowed. Math 131 is comparably difficult to calc AB strictly because you’ve got to use (on a regular basis) what a substantial amount of students would rather avoid: natural logs, trig, l’Hopital, curve sketching, limits, etc. also, you spent a year in calc AB while you spend only a semester in math 131. some stuff is foreign. exams are tough, and homework assignments are pretty long, but the challenge is worth the enjoyment, imo. there’s a discussion section where at the beginning or end of class you are quizzed. depends on your professor on how difficult or easy the class will be.

both math 131 or 121 fulfill the calculus requirement: Prerequisites

No calculators. This is going to be a fun semester…

coolpg this is true for UVa and great information to share with others. However, in this case nike2k3 attends GMU which has other options in place for retaking a course and how it is factored into your GPA. This holds true for most VA Public Colleges, they all have their own criteria and standards for course retakes.

It would be better to take a higher level math class and get a good grade than to retake one you already did and get an A.

^I agree. As I previously noted you should take STAT 350 at GMU next. This is the equivalent to UVa’s STAT 2120 the prerequisite we have been discussing at McIntire.
