Another Minor Post - Biochem/Biomed/etc.

Bored, googling stuff, thought I'd see if other have done some of this legwork, or just have an opinion:

So I'm currently leaning toward Materials Science as a major. My hope after that is to go to grad school. I am currently leaning 45% something MSE for energy, 45% biomedical and 10% toying with the idea of medical school (that fancy comes and goes).

It was mentioned to me in another thread that biomed and MSE have some overlap in the tissue/cell areas and that some MSE programs have a biomaterials option (the one I hope to attend does), and that this could make me an acceptable candidate for biomed grad programs if I choose.

But would a minor help too? I was looking, and found a minor in biomed and also one in biochem. Biochem actually sounds fantastically interesting to me, and while I haven't taken a chem class at any level, I have been looking forward to my principles of chem class more or less since I decided to go back to school (taking it in the spring).

Also, I have gotten the impression from here that the whole taking biomed for medical school gambit is not really a great idea, so I thought maybe a biochem minor with my materials major could kill a few birds with one stone? I am really just guess at what even applies to what.

Any thoughts on any of this, either of those minors, any other minor, minors in general, or my goals in general, are always greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Take the BME grad school requirements of an undergrad. That and a few related electives should be what you need. You don’t necessarily need a minor, just the classes. A minor is just a suggestion for how to learn a field.

Thanks. I guess a minor just gives off the false impression to me that it’s like official or something.
