another obsessively-compulsive-top-college-hunting senior's thread for ed at rice

rice has a 31 percent ed acceptance rate opposed to 18 percent reg acceptance rate, and one of my parents went there

91 average from really hard houston prep school with median sat of 2185 http://www.sjs.org/ftpimages/80/down...3_id275938.pdf, 2 honors courses, 4 aps (not the most rigous, i know). guidance counseler says that rice likes applicants from this school,as every year 9 people out of our 140 student senior class goes there.

At our school if you get a 93 average you are completely expected to go to an ivy or similar caliber school, so a 91 average isn't that bad, and the rice people told my dad that to them, being in the top half at st. john's is looked at as being number one anywhere else.

2170 sat and will retake aiming for at least 2200, above 80th percentile in 2 sat 2s

4 on modern european history ap

high honors (above 90 average) every year of high school

ecs:

leadership role event organizer in christian youth group

400 community service hours all with helping less fortunate like giving ronald mcdonald house kids guitar lessons, 3 years gold presidential service award, 1 year silver

had a job senior year doing gardening

4 years wrestling, 1 football, 1 track and field

french club 4 years

went to christian religious school every wednesday, pray and learn about theology and hang with friends

I love Rice and am gonig to ed there, please chance me.

ED, and the relationship with your parents is really going to help. That 91-93 mark thing you're talking about, I think, gives you a good approximation that you'd get in.

So, I'd say a 75-95% chance of acceptance.

oh man, it's making me kind of nervous that so many people ( my grandmother, friend's mom, others) are telling me that I will get into Rice that now I feel really nervous that, to my utmost shock, I will get rejected.

I mean, Rice is just tooooooo perfect and unique, small size, small classes, SWEET division 1 football and national champion baseball team, INCREDIBLE residential college system and sports, close to home, lots of pretty trees on campus, Rice is truly unique and that's why I'm nervous that I won't get in.

I kind of think I should just take a year off if I don't get in, what do you think?

I mean, after a year of doing something interesting to enchance my application, my chances would be even higher I guess.
