Hi Im from a public school in Westchester Country NY
I applied ED to Rice.
My rank is in the 2nd decile or top 20%, we only get deciles so im really around 12% out of 200 students.
My average is about a 92.
Ive gotten a 5 on bio AP, 4 on US AP, and 4 on Comp Sci AB AP
This year Im taking AP Physics, AP Lit, AP World, AP Calc BC, and Economics.
I also took AP Chemistry over the summer through the internet. The thing is that i didnt do so well in 9th and 10th grade but boosted my average by like 5 points when started taking AP's. I get very high math and science grades and English and History grades that have a little to be desired but i cant complain.
SAT I:
1st time: math: 740, reading: 690, writing: 730
2nd time: math:800, reading: 680, writing: 670
SAT II:
Math Ic: 710
Math IIC: 790
Chem: 750
Us HIST: 630
Im applying for physics.
For extracurriculars:
I was in band for 4 years on trombone. Its class but i consider it a EC.
Brass Ensemble for 4 years
Jazz Band for 4 years
Frisbee club 4 years
Captain of Mathletes this year member for 3 years. I qualified for states too.
Treasurer of NHS.
In MHS.
I did a little bit of community service which i kind of made it seem like a llittle more than it was.
I visited Rice from NY and i got an interview if that means anything.
I would appreciate if if you give me any feedback on whether you think i will get accepted.
Thanks A lot

Where in Westchester are you at? Ok chance I would say, but I'm not really qualified at all.

Um, can you wait half a month and find out for yourself?

I'd say its borderline, the ED and location helps as well as music, but I don't know, how competitive is your school?

I don't understand why people put Band as an EC...isn't it on your transcript as a class? No offense, but Band to me is a complete joke -- and there really isn't a dedication to it outside of class. Extracurriculars...by definition...mean outside of the regular curriculum or program of courses.

i put band as an extra curricular because we go to competitions and do a lot of community service outside of school. And my school is moderately competitive, I mean its no Scarsdale, if you know what that is, but it holds its own.

Community Service as an entire class? That's fascinating...could you give me an example?

like we play all the football games, play at old folks homes, go caroling, tomorrow we are playing at a christmas tree lighting, every year we go to NYSSMA which is like a New Yoirk State music thing that you get rated on. We march in firemans parades, etc...

Haha, I was asking because I live in Westchester too.

OH, I go to Hen Hud if you know what that is.

Nah, I don't. I go to JJHS

Do you mean John Jay?
