Another one of those annoying Chance Posts

Hey all, I am a rising senior, and pretty much decided on applying to GW ED1.
Right now I am torn about what school I should apply to: I love history (which is pretty clearly demonstrated in my ECs), and have always been interested in politics and government. So, PSC is very attractive. But at the same time, the PoliComm program is something that seems interesting, and I have always enjoyed writing/english etc. So if you have any advice about CCAS or SMPA, that would be appreciated. Here are my stats:

GPA: 4.1 weighted
SAT: 2170 800 CR, 660 M, 740 W
SAT 2: USH 730, Lit 740

AP Classes: APUSH (5), AP Macro/Micro (haven't gotten scores back, but should be 4/5)
I also took IB Euro and am expecting a high score on the exam

I have taken Honors or Advanced classes (which are AP level at my school but not officially AP) for everything

My senior schedule is : AP Lit
AP GOV
AP Psych
AP Stats
IB Asia Seminar
IB Environmental Systems
ECs:Varsity Rowing (takes up a ton of time), Senior Captain
Student Group on Race Relations (a really active group at my school, community service with students)
Junto (more community service, project based)
Volunteer at a local Film Festival
I work at my boathouse as a coxswain during the summer
Outward Bound
National Institute of American History and Democracy at the College of William and Mary, summer course for college credit, got an A in the class

Awards:
National History Day awards at local, state, and national level (2 years in a row)
National Latin exam recognition three years in a row
National Etymology Exam Silver Medal
Probably going to be a national merit semifinalist, although it hasn't been announced yet
Honor roll all of high school

So those are the stats. I'm wondering about scholarships, as well as the stuff I mentioned in the intro paragraph. I'm really just waiting for the common app to open in august!

I think you are a nearly guaranteed admission.

I do have a few suggestions that you can take or leave…

1) Apply to their Honors Program – It is a good program and you have a good chance. Also, this will make you seem more interested.

2) Write an awesome Why GW essay – If you are sure you want to go there, this shouldn’t be difficult!

3) Get an interview with the admissions department – This will just seal the deal plus I think it really helped me gain experience for being interviewed.

GW was my #1, I applied ED1 and I did all of the above and got in with a scholarship, so maybe you can too! On a side note, I used this:
https://gwapplication.gwu.edu/login/login.cfm</a>
when applying to GW instead of the CommonApp. It made everything smooth for me from applying, checking things, registering for the interview and finding my acceptance!

Good luck, and tell me how you do next fall!

murphy hit the nail on the head, great advice.

in w/ scholarship.

In. and probably a scholarship.

at the overnight program I did, they said it flat out that ED1 raises your chances quite a bit. make sure your Why GW is NOT generic and doesn’t focus on DC.

To echo what others have said, I definitely think your chances of admission are near 100%. You’re likely to get a scholarship as well, and the only real detracting thing I can see in your app is a lack of real challenging APs (but that’s honestly nitpicking).

As far as where to apply, from what I’ve heard transferring schools isn’t too difficult should you have a change of heart early on. I would apply where you think you’ll be the most happy/what you want to learn the most but realize you should be able to change if it doesn’tw ork out.
