another OOS chance, please

I would say engineering b/c I remember reading somewhere the avg SAT was close to 1400 and the w gpa was 4.5, but I am comparing gemstone to Smith. Not non specialty schools

i did apply to smith, and im not saying im going to get in, but admissions doesnt just cut people off at 1300, they look at everything

Doing Business with Maryland

(note bottom)

yea thats from 06, admissions has gotten a little harder since then. that sucks though because im sure there are plenty of good students like you or who have 1290s who would do fine at smith.

Once a school says min., it is typically the min, otherwise they open themselves up to a lawsuit. As laxer stated that was 2 admission cycles ago. UMDCP non specialty acceptance rates have lowered, it is not a big jump to believe that SMith will be the same. Most importantly for OOS you never want to be at the bottom of that 50%, you always want to be on the top

Honestly Din0, I would say that you have an excellent chance of getting accepted. There's only one problem with that, who am I? Since you were deferred from Binghamton (which I'm completely shocked at by the way), there must be something in your profile that isn't quite perfect. Although I know Binghamton had a much more qualified applicant pool this year, I was accepted with statistics that are nowhere near as good as yours (Just look them up on my other threads). The fact of the matter is college admissions is completely ambiguous, no one knows why people are accepted or rejected. At the end of the day all you can do is sit back and wait. To be quite frank, these chance threads are stemmed from inadequacies that we have developed inside of ourselves. We need our ego to be caressed when in actuality we know that no one holds the answer to this question. All people can do is predict and that is your most valuable resource. I believe that Bullet is one of the only people that can give you the best response because she has clearly researched the process and more importantly been through it. I no longer post chance threads because they are just not an accurate measure. I wish you the best of luck and hope that we will both be attending Maryland in the fall.

I hope to see you guys at maryland aslo. Good Luck

true that knight, true that

DiNO,

If your a NY kid and it seems your schools weighting is even worse than our schools, our Val "only" had a 100, and that was with 9 AP's.The kids have to have 95 or better to get a weight for AP.Nothing added unless you get the 95, nothing for honors. She Got into Columbia, some schools weigh things differently. A local school near us includes gym, music, and other fluff electives into their GPA. Our school only includes Math Science Social Studies and English, nothing else. Look at your schools Scattergram of acceptances. We had plenty of NY kids get in last year with your stats.

Very well put knight.

He is correct none of us sit on the admissions board, I myself only go by what I know from resource materials and looking at what kids on these threadds had when they were accepted. So for us it is a guesstimate.

There is nothing to do but wait now and hope.

Good Luck
