Application stats from last year

I did a smiliar one of these for penn state but here it is for maryland. this is from the class of 08 at my HS(NJ).

GPA(W) SATs(1600) Decision
4.1 1250 Accepted
4.07 1300 Accepted
3.8 1200 Accepted
3.7 1240 Accepted
3.32 1120 Denied

hope this helps! I applied to Smith, My stats are: male, 3.6 W (Hard public NJ HS), 1320/1600, NHS, great resume, no aid needed, father is an alum and is involved at Smith. 1st choice and i cant wait till feb to find out.

First UMD does not accept based on need.

If Dad is an alum to UMD you will get pts, your SAT is great, but a 3.6 W for an OOS is low. Legacy is a hook, but for OOS in a popular area or even IS it is not what the acceptance will be about.

What you need to delve further into is the program they applied for, if it is engineering, business, Scholars, Honors, gemstone it would explain no 1 &2, but not 3 & 4. 3 & 4 could have been applying for liberal arts (i.e. music, theatre) and that would explain their acceptance. 5 could have been asking for general, and that is definetely 2 low. #5 is realistically 2 low unless, they moved here from another country when they were @12, and Eng is a 2nd language, they would also need incredible ECs.
