Baseball captain, NHS, Eagle Scout, Math Honor Society, FBLA, food pantry, homecoming

I'd say solid essays/recs

I think it would be a match or reach but I am not sure. Have you been accpeted/rejected at any other schools yet?

deferred from villanova, which is first choice, with UMD close second

Frankly speaking, as a person from the South and West, I've always thought of UM CP as a superior school to Villanova U (I've barely heard of the school).

nah nova is nasty, especially business which is what i applied to (13th undergrad in country)

Match or reach, but not for Smith. Your GPA is low for weighted, but your SAT scores are on par and you have great ECS. Goodluck, only a month to go

how could a 98 possibly too low? that is like a 4.6/5.0 weighted is it not.?...I am scared.....lol...maryland average is 3.9

You read it as not weighted and I read it as weighted..only Dino can say which it is. Also Villanova deferred and Smith is ranked number 7 in THE WORLD. Villanova's acceptance rate is similiar to UMDCP. Plus the other strike is Dino is OOS, which means he is in the smaller pot, only about 30% are from OOS, Villanova is private which means your residency doesn't matter

Finally the avg SAT score is 1360, and the median is 1350, which is higher than what Dino has...for an OOS you always want to be on the higher end, not the lower, esp. for a specialty school like Smith. However, I would think for gen admission to UMD he is a match, since they would have lower scores on the SAT and that would put him on the higher end

just to clear up rankings,

Undergrad - BSchools

and the 98.7 is weighted, i believe unweighted is a little higher then 95.

what would a 98.7 turn into GPA wise around? what about a 95?

That's the closest weighted to unweighted I have seen. What is the point scale given to Honors and AP?

As far as GPA on a 4.0 scale a 95 would be a 3.8 and a 98.7 is approx 3.95 w

It seems business week put other factors in, such as cost, student recruiter satisfaction. Those are too fluid, especially if somebody is saying MIT is a business school. Or puts Richmond, which under any other standard would not out rank UMD, nor would UNCCH ever be seen as behind MIT.

Sorry, but the data seems a little skewed and not towards the quality of the education, more to the satisfaction, and the paycheck you get out of there.

Either way if you delve even further, it will show that UMD SMith has a higher SAT/GPA avg, which is really the important point right now for you.

Like I said I think you should be in for gen., but since Villanova is comparable on acceptance rate it might be for Spring 10, no waitlisting at UMD

Honors is final avg x 1.05 and AP is final x 1.07, for my school
my nova deference was only EA, and don't really think the two can be compared

And every ranking list is different for business programs, just showing what i saw

I agree that every ranking is different.

Goodluck

Bullet, I still dont get this can you help me understand?

His W GPA is 98...wouldn't that translate to a 3.9 W?
How is that too low? that is the average?

WHy

you're missing the 3 letters OOS.

lol i dont care what any of you say, a 98 is not too low, no matter where im coming from, i would love to see how many kids have a that with such a rigorous course load

Dino...alot of people have that and even a more rigorous course load. My DD is a jr.and is in the ICSCE program carrying 3 APs now her weighted GPA is 4.37. DS who is in the scholars program, 4 APs (school only offered 8) , jump start and all honors throughout hs, excluding classes like gym. his weighted gpa was 4.17

Your gpa is very good, nobody is saying it stinks. Everybody is saying OOS especially from NJ/NY area is very competitive. In some ways it is probably more competitive than IS. UMD wants diversity from across the nation, they do take many from NJ/NY, but they also have a high amt of apps.

just so you know, if you applied to smith, you have no shot for smith. not that you are not a great student but there is a 1300 SAT min.

Minimum requirements for business program:

Minimum SAT score: 1300
Minimum ACT: 29
Minimum high school GPA : 3.2
University of Maryland: Undergraduate Profile – BusinessWeek

I find it interesting that the SAT is so high, but the gpa is low. I know that it is a min, but I bet there is probably only 1 person with that gpa...especially if you look further down and see they say the gpa is very important...if you scroll down further the acceptance rate is 26%. To me that says the gpa has got to be high for acceptance, when you look at UMD overall it is 39% and their avg SAT is 1250 with a gpa over 3.4 uw

Is it harder to get into the business program or engineering program at maryland?
