Another OSS Chance Thread

I want to enroll in UT at Austin for Accounting and am asking for a few people to chance me.

-Hispanic (considered a hook at UT???)
-School for Advanced Studies in Miami, FL (ranked 15th in Newsweeks' "America's Top Public High Schools")
-Class Rank is 15 out of 49, which in percentile would be 68%, the con of going to such a small school. I am curious, however, about how UT weighs in a schools rigor when deciding on admissions.
- Unweighted GPA is 3.37, Weighted GPA is 5.3 (due to large amount of dual enrollment classes and AP classes). Obtained a 4 in AP Lang. and expect to obtain a 5 in Calculus AB, even though I will have finished Calculus 1, 2, and 3 (through dual enrollment) by the end of the school year.
- SAT is 1310 (R: 610 M:680) yet expect a 1350+ (700+ in math) when the October scores come in. ACT score of 29 so far, yet I will be retaking it in December.

EC and Comm. Service:
-Math tutoring at local middle school (3-5 hrs/wk)
-Math Club President and hold math tutoring sessions (2-5 hrs/wk)
-FBLA member : 33rd place in Nation for the Virtual Business Challenge (2nd in Florida)
-Math Honors Society in 9th-10th grade
-Worked at Best Buy for 11 months during Sophomore year
-Around 50 hours of community service at Miami Book Fair International

Looking for some quick chances from anyone willing! Thank you!

The December ACT won’t help you because it will be past the deadline.

I am not an admissions officer, but I’m afraid your stats, rank, grades, scores, do not bode well for accounting. McCombs is the most competitive school to get into at UT (along with engineering) and there will be many applying who will have better applications than you.

But, hey, like I said, I don’t work for UT - so go for it! But, I’d write some pretty killer essays! And, in essay C where you can explain things, I’d mention how tough your school is (although they are likely to know that already).

Good luck!

Thank you for the reply.
Would you consider applying for the Summer term to have any sort of advantage when it comes to admissions?

UT doesn’t work that way, and McCombs only admits in the fall semester.

One way to get in if you want business is to put another major as your 2nd choice, a less competitive one, like LA, or undeclared, then transfer into McCombs as a sophomore. It’s not that hard if you take care of your business and make good grades freshman year.
