Not going for a specific open house- just signed up for the admitted student tour- will def call tho for an app' with Moore school of Business--

Do you think I can set up a meeting w/ Capstone before actually hearing if she is invited? maybe that shows her interest??

I tried to book the Inn at Usc for a wed/thurs night and they were fully booked- which surprised me, but they directed me to the hampton Inn on Gervais and thats what I booked-

eadad, I assume your D flies there- does she fly directly into Columbia- I live right outside of NYC and there were virtually no direct flights into columbia from any of the area airports- Newark, JFK or Laguardia-all connected in Charlotte, and it looks easier to drive from Charlotte rather than fly and pay an exhorbitant amount-so that is what we are doing- Is there an easier way?
continental had a few direct flights but were very pricey no matter the date( i guess they are gouging the business traveller!)

Continental has two non-stop flights a day. If you book ahead, you usually can get a ticket for around $300. The Clarion Inn is very close to the Moore School; one block west of the Inn at USC, which is one block west of Moore. If you are flexible, check CO specials which post on Tuesdays for weekend travel. Columbia has been on the list for $119.

Definitely go ahead and set up a meeting with Capstone if you have time. They are happy to share info with you and give you a dorm tour. I'm almost positive we went before son had received his official Capstone invitation.

Hampton Inn on Gervais is my favorite.Free breakfast, great beds, wonderful eating options within walking distance ,Starbucks on the corner LOL. You'll need to drive to the school (not all that far however)but admissions has their own parking,so not a problem.Have also stayed at the Clarion (so-so) and the Mariott (nice).Theres a brand new Courtyard by Mariott directly across the street from the Coliseum/Koger Center. No car needed there.
We are from NYC metro area.S has flown into Columbia..need to change planes(US Air).Hes also flown out of Charlotte (Jet Blue)this year when he had a car to leave at the Charlotte airport. Its 90 minutes to Columbia by car from Charlotte. There is a daily Delta direct flight from NY to Columbia, but only one so you're stuck to their schedule if you choose that. This is the flight S was booked on Thanksgiving 06 and when it was cancelled he couldnt fly out till the next day,so I recommend changing planes on US Air and having more choice.
Five of Us..Admissions will try to arrange anything special you want. Before we knew S was going to the McNair weekend, they had arranged all sorts of special meetings for him with dept, Honors,etc..even some time with the Assoc Dean there(Jim Burns).

AA offers direct flights from DFW. At Christmas she drove to Chapel Hill (our S is a senior there) and they flew back together from RDU with a far better fare than we had found for her out of CAE.

Usually with enough notice I can find reasonable fares on AA....except for holidays.
