Capstone

If I was accepted for the McKissick Scholarships, and rejected from the McNair scholarship, and rejected from Honors, can I still be considered for Capstone ??
Thank you!

Last year my S received the Coopers award (did not even apply for McNair) and was also invited to join Capstone. So it may be possible.

I was going to ask the same question....when will students hear about Capstone?

It's been a year ago so memory is a little fuzzy but I think the Capstone letter came within a few weeks after receiving the letter about the Coopers scholarship. The Capstone letter indicated that you would receive at least a $1500 per year merit award if chosen to join.

I was just there with S for the McNair. I would say call Heather Wheeler in the Admissions office. She was fabulous, and seemingly knows all you need to know.
I would recommend Capstone to anyone who is eligible. It was a great building and I met lots of happy kids living there. And theres extra $$ involved. I also recommend contacting the intended major depts for your kids and inquiring about departmental scholarships.
Seems to be the kind of school where you need to communicate and where things are "malleable".Ask questions..it seems to help there.Nothing seems written in stone...

DD is thinking that she will not be selected for Capstone. Her rationale is that USC has already given her a "bone" for acceptance. Personally, it's not the money at this point, but that Capstone makes that "big university" a bit smaller with that program. Does anyone know how they select the Capstone Scholars?? Would McKissick Scholarship recipients be eligible? Oh well...we'll just wait and see. We're trying to figure out when we can go down to USC for a long weekend...it's a very busy time of the year...concerts, band trip, All State...all in March. But we are going to really try to get there. Thank goodness we visited before she applied. But still...we'd like to go again.

I phoned admissions today to ask about Capstone - (it is pretty important to my D.) I was told that they are a little later than they had hoped but they are trying to get letters out by the end of the week. I will be eagerly checking the mailbox and keeping my fingers crossed! At least we know that they have not been left out!

I was told today that excellent grades and sat's 1200-1300 should qualify you.....so I would say your daughter ( and mine) stand a good chance. I'll cross fingers for her as well.

if you can I would recommend a weekday trip rather than weekend..try to see the school in action..it was much more interesting being on campus on the Monday after the weekend. They do have a Spring Break week coming up(next week).
Capstone letters are forthcoming as far as I know.I dont think she's going to have a problem.

Our plan is to have DH and DD got to USC for a long weekend...leaving here on Saturday and coming back late Monday night. That would give them some "poking around" time on Saturday, and Sunday...plus maybe DD could arrange an oboe lesson on Saturday with the teacher. Then Monday, they could meet an adcom...go to a class, etc. She will contact the nice scholarship woman on the letter to make the arrangements...seemed like the best thing to do.

I talked to person on the letter today about D visiting classes the Monday after the Scholars day...she said to contact the visitor center to arrange that.

The schedule for Saturday is a fair put on to show clubs and activities, sample classes, tours, q&a breakout sessions and other things...registration starts at 8AM and the events run until 4 or 4:30.
