Another Way to Get into An Impacted Major

I was hearing from some students that if you're not accepted into an impacted major upon admission you can actually apply for it after taking some classes and getting really good grades. Is there any credibility to this, anyone have a link?

No link as of now (I'll find it when I'm not sleepy), but yes, there are forms you can fill out from each department that will allow you to petition admittance into a desired major. There are pre-requisites such as at least x number of Letter-graded units and a x.xx GPA so that you're even elegible for the entire process.

Yes, you can apply to switch into an impacted major. However, I've heard it's very, very difficult to get into bioengineering. I don't know if this is true for all impacted majors, or even true at all.

Yeah, for BioE, don’t count on being able to do that – all of the literature says that there is no way whatsoever to get in other than as a freshman. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a way, but it sounds like nobody’s successfully done it.

a friend of mine was trying to get into cs/bioinformatics and he said they told him what an above poster said-- take the required classes and get REALLY good grades. It's really difficult.
