Another Worried Junior

Ok so my deal is I have a 3.56 GPA in all regular classes so I don't have any A.P classes. Now summer is coming and I'll be taking classes at the local community college. Will NYU take into consideration that I get good grades in college classes and that I plan on taking A.P classes my senior year? Can the other things like essays/statements/ and recommendations help make up for the lack of a perfect GPA and vigorous classes.

do they offer AP courses for underclassmen at your school? If so, and you opted not to take them, it's going to appear as if you weren't challenging yourself enough. Taking college and AP classes later will redeem you somewhat, it won't undo anything. And did you take honors classes? And if your school does have AP classes for juniors, etc., did you have a good reason for not taking them? You really need to provide more information, no one can really give you an adequate response with this little to go on. Also, how good is a 3.56 gpa at your school...are you high in class rank? And are you active in extracurricular activities? What about SAT scores? This affects things also.

I haven't taken A.P classes because I wasn't thinking about it being that important rather than worrying about it being too challenging. I understand if their is damage, it can't be undone. I haven't taken my SAT's and SAT2's so I'm studying the hell out of my brains for that. My GPA is obviously not the best at my school but I can safely say I am in the top ten or fifteen percent. About extracurricular activities, I am an avid volunteer for my city cleaning up neighborhoods and such on weekends with others my age.

Also, would it matter that I hold a job after school to show my hard working side?

anything helps. and i think nyu is more numbers oriented than other colleges. so if you get good sat's, in addition to good essays/recs/activities, you have a good shot.

What do you mean by numbers oriented? Test scores? Or they like to see you involved in many things and like to look at you through more than grades and test scores?

no they meant numbers based as in grades and sat's. and the job can help if you're using it to provide for your family (as opposed to just for spending money or a car or something) but otherwise it wont replace extracurricular activities. will you have any leadership/officer positions for clubs?

I really don't know if I will be doing clubs but I will obviously be looking into it because its not really my choice, its a matter of getting the right stuff done. So from what I understand, the good rec letters/essays/ and high test scores can put me in a good place right?

are you gonna be a senior next year? if so, theres no point in trying to join clubs senior year, just focus on your volunteering and stuff i suppose. even with high test scores and pretty good grades for next year, NYU will still be a considerable reach, but it wouldnt be out of the question.

Thanks for all the replys, its a stab in the heart to see it as a considerable reach but thanks for all the info.

Just to get things straight, There aren't any rules against applying for transfer a year later after you have been rejected for freshman right? I'm not hoping to be rejected for freshman but I need to know what I'm going to do for backups.

you can transfer later if you're rejected.

Ok. Again, thanks for all the info
