I’m in 11th grade but I moved here in 10th grade. I took half a year of spanish and a full year of french freshman year. I took a full year of spanish sophomre year with the french ap TEST ONLY (no class) and got a 5. I’m now taking another year of spanish. Should I take spanish my senior year or simply take the subject test and drop it? I doon’t really have room in my schedule and if I would drop spanish, I’d either take AP Stat, AP Euro or just retake AP Studio art
Take the subject test if you think you can get 700+.you’ll be fine with Spanish and AP French.
AP stats is an ‘AP lite’. Doesn’t 'count’as an AP in Adcom eyes and is better taken 'for real’in college.
Pick AP Euro or AP art depending on your interests and the rest of your schedule. A second semester of art may be good as you’ll really develop your technique and would be able to have a portfolio.
Can you list what level of French and Spanish courses you took each year?
^ OP is an expat kid so esl is likely to count for foreign language/signal late arrival.
It’s not really any level of French since I lived in France @ucbalumnus
Spanish 1 (half course) Frshman year, Spanish 2 Sophomore year and now Spanish 3
Spanish 3 + ESL (assuming you took ESL) + AP French should do it for languages.
What level of Spanish and French did you get up to?
Note that your foreign language should be replaced with an academic class.
Unless you really are interested in Spanish I’d take one of the other courses instead. Clearly your language skills are good and another year of Spanish won’t help you at all getting into college.
It looks like the OP has the following:
Spanish 3 (third year course) in high school
French learned by living in France, and 5 on French AP test
I want a class that is both fun and reflects my strong abilities in a subject, and hence looks good for college.
I feel like replace spanish by AP Euro would look really good but it doesn’t interest me. Replacing it by another year of AP Studio art would be really interesting but wouldn’t really look good. This is why I am hesitant!
Take both.
AP Euro is a good class to have and since you’re European, you’d have a slight edge in it. Plus, it should be of interest to you to know your culture and history.
AP Studio Art DOES look good, why in the world would you think it doesn’t???
I cannot take both!! There is no room in mt schedule for that, unfortunately :(.
Really?! I thought that since it is not an academic class, it would not look rigorous
It’s unfortunate you can’t take both. See with your guidance counselor what you might do to make it happen?
AP Studio Art is a rigorous class in Art. It IS rigorous in the same way AP Physics or AP Gov is rigorous.
And there is nothing wrong with taking an art course! You are taking the most rigorous one there is.
