Yes, you can transfer your license to NY (or just take the board exam for NY, if you’re set on practicing there). However, as -Lurker- mentioned, make sure that you have the intern hours to be able to take it (arrange it before P1 year). NY also has a compounding exam, I believe, so you’d have to prepare for that.

Hi,
So can anyone tell me more about pharmacy residencies? Specifically, if i wanted to be a pediatric clinical pharmacist, what exactly would that entail? Like how many more years, etc? Thanks!

1-2 years

probably 2

Is Gen Psych difficult? This is coming from no background in Psych during HS. I know this is taken during PP2 1st semester, but if I am APing out of Bio, should one be able to handle a PP2 course during the first year?

What other electives, if not gen psych, do Pharm students choose to take during PP1 Fall semester?

Gen Psych is not bad it was easy for me and i also didnt have any background…you dont have to take it during the PP2 1st semester u can take it during ur PP1 if u want to…

Gen psych is probably one of the easiest courses you will ever take. It is actually more commonly taken by PP1s than PP2s, especially those that APed out of something.

Do you think it would be hard to do work-study and keep your grades up in the pharmacy program at the same time?

No, a lot of my friends do work-study. None of them have ever reported problems. One of my friends is lucky enough to work in a library, and he gets paid $10/hr for basically just sitting there and doing homework.

this is a really random question but why is it that some people with lower GPA’s and lower SAT scores get into Rutgers Pharmacy while those with higher scores don’t?

and do the Rutgers Pharm admission people look at any SAT Subject test scores?

thanks^^

$10/hr at the library which one does he work at…i work at alexander and i only make min wage :(…

Do you need to be part of work-study to work at the library or can regular students be hired too?

can somebody please answer my questions above? I’m very curious b/c i would really want to get into Rutgers pharm. Thanks in advance! :]

Zheng7456: Hm, perhaps I remembered wrong. He works at Alexander too.

Daedallia: It’s probably best to go to the library itself and ask at the beginning of the year. I know that it would be a lot harder because work/study kids would get first dibs…but I don’t know if it’s necessarily impossible. I think that the people who apply for the consultant jobs and get it can be stationed in the libraries too.

Sporty04: Who knows. Some people may just have more of what the adcom is looking for, which could show in places like unusual ECs or the essay. It’s probably for the same reason why people with enviable/seemingly perfect stats still get rejected from the Ivy Leagues. Having a perfect GPA and SAT scores doesn’t guarantee entrance to any college.
RU Pharmacy doesn’t look at SAT II scores.

My extracurriculars are not that bad.
I have a VP position in the Latin club.
Active member of E.R.A.S.E. Club.
Community service clubs like Interact, and I shovel snow for seniors
b/c that’s what the track team does.

I take XC, Winter Track, And a Varsity Position in Tennis.

What are my chances of a scholarship, and what would I need more to get a good scholarship, a full ride if possible? (other than increase my S.A.T. score)

Do I need to take Physics during my high school year? Because I was planning not to.

Best way to increase reading and writing scores?

Early decision, should I do that or no

The year I got into pharmacy, the requirements for a full scholarship was a certain SAT score (1500 on math and CR alone, I believe) and top 3% of HS class. They have since done away with the GPA/SAT grid, but just do your best and hopefully it will pay off. As long as your grades are good, you’ll probably get a scholarship of some sort.

It’s nice if you take physics. I hated the class and it made my senior year stressful, BUT it’s better to have some sort of background in physics. It’s better than nothing; it’ll be so much worse to begin physics in college with no background knowledge. The people who were in that situation for calculus, for instance, really struggled while the rest of us coasted through it. Besides, having physics could strengthen your application on the science side (although it’s not impossible to get in even if you don’t…some of my friends haven’t taken it before).

There is no early decision, but RU does do rolling admissions…so the sooner you apply, the better.

Alright, I was a long-time “watcher” who would read threads and absorb as much info as I can. I think it’s time that I start to think a little bit more if I can make it into Rutgers Pharmacy.

Basic Info:
- Would love to be a Pharmacist, and Rutgers Pharmacy would be the perfect fit for me in my opinion as I live in New Jersey and the 6 year program seems very ambitious.
- 17 and going to be a Senior (not a great high school, not Blue Ribbon or anything. However, I am top 10% in my class, though it is fairly “easy”
- Not the best well off financially, but don’t live in a dump or anything

Grades/SAT’s/AP’s/GPA

SAT I: 2020
: CR - 590
: Math - 740
: Writing - 690

SAT II’s
: Chemistry - 710
: Math IIC - 760
: US History - 700

AP’s (also took the AP classes in my school) [ALL JUNIOR YEAR]
: Chemistry - 4
: US History - 4
: Language and Composition - 3

Extracurriculars
: To be perfectly honest, I am not that involved in terms of extracurricularly. I have been volunteering at the local library for about a year, and will continue to do so, and I have been working a part-time summer job this year. I did Winter and Spring Track my Sophomore and Junior Years.
: I was also part of the New Jersey Chemistry Olympics my Sophomore and Junior Years, and our team won First Place this year (my Junior Year, when I was in Team A!)

GPA : Junior Year (by marking period) - 3.91, 3.93, 3.75, 4.06
: I studied hard this year and did great in all my classes. However, my GPA suffered because of my Medical Terminology class. Horrible class and bad teacher, and my GPA suffered as a result. Freshman and Sophomore years were easily 4.25+, and my Senior Year should be also.

All honors or AP classes (best possible)

Senior Year includes AP Biology, AP Lit & Comp, and AP Calculus. Not taking any History classes this year (my school does NOT require 4 years of history, and though it is interesting, I had no desire to do AP Gov.) However, I am making up for it by taking Honors Physics in addition to AP Biology my Senior Year. (Previously, it was Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry my Freshman and Sophomore years, respectively)

Questions:
- What are my chances? (Please be somewhat specific in how qualified and if there are any negatives or cons in my “resume,” please state them so I can try to fix them.

When is the last day to apply, and when do you think I should do it by? (Also please let me know when I should expect to receive the decision.) I am familiar with the concept of early decision, and when is the last day to apply for that, and when does the decision come? If Rutgers doesn’t even offer it, let me know

Is early decision detrimental or anything? Should I do it? Like I said, it is a great career choice in my opinion and I have good work ethic, I would say. I slacked big time this summer, but I will pick up. Need some positive reinforcement first, though…

How are my scores SAT wise? Excuse my language, but my parents are completely anal and don’t think it is a good score. Though I wouldn’t brag to the whole entire *****ing world, I am pretty proud of my work as I took it March of my Junior Year and worked pretty hard. What are you thoughts?

By asking what are your thoughts, please be more specific… If my parents told me, “You worked hard, but if you could boost your Critical Reading score a bit, that’d be awesome”. Instead, they completely nullify the score and insist on 2000+. I understand they aren’t wrong, but it annoys me.

Let me know what is the average? NOT Rutgers as a whole. Just the Pharmacy School and the people that are accepted, if possible.

Do you think I should retake it? If so, do I have to delay my sending in the application to wait for the score?

Does Rutgers Pharmacy accept “divided” SAT I scores? Like a writing score from March, with a Math score from October?

How is the financial aid at Rutgers Pharmacy? To be honest, I have nothing to compare it to, so please don’t only give me numbers. I don’t know what my parents’ income is, but I would imagine it is less than $40,000 a year, unfortunately, maybe a little more. Don’t feel like asking .

Please let me know your thoughts and also if it interferes with the early decision and stuff.

Not too into the application scene yet, so basically, where do I get the application? And how much does it cost? I also heard that there are waivers, and I’m sure our family is applicable for that, if possible.

What does the application consist of? (I believe Lurker said the essay is optional, is that true? Is it preferred to write it anyway though? [to look more ambitious?]

Scholarships/Honors Program

I don’t know if scholarships are present at Rutgers Pharmacy (I would imagine there are), but how are they? Do they give lots of money?

Importantly, what are my chances at getting a scholarship

Is there just one program at Rutgers Pharmacy (the 6 year one?) And what is the Honors Program and the benefits/differences. What are my chances? (Does my application automatically include me as a candidate to the Honors Program or do I have to get a separate one)

Seems pretty basic, but what is the cost of attending Rutgers Pharmacy? I gave you my basic financial information, and if accepted, I would be in-state. Without financial aid I guess, and NO scholarships, how much is it a year? Or if not possible, how much per semester? (I would like to know the money. But to be completely honest, if I was accepted, I would beg my parents to pay ANY amount.)
: I just asked for the price WITHOUT any scholarships or financial aid. If I received financial aid, how much can I expect to pay?

I believe it was Lurker, but he said that extracurriculars and Senior Grades weren’t weighed that heavily. Though it is a relief, it can also be a horrible thing if my other stuff isn’t good enough. So let me know what your thoughts are…

I know #8 wasn’t much of a question so far, but it starts here:

What are my focuses in my Senior Year? I will still try my hardest in classes, and I don’t see myself slacking to be honest…

AP’s in my Senior Year / SAT II’s

I don’t really have time for any more SAT II’s, right? As I think I should take the SAT I again the next available time.

Okay, this is very important. What are your thoughts on my AP Classes in my Senior Year (Biology, Calculus, and Literature and Composition). I believe Lurker said that Rutgers Pharmacy only accepts 8 credits or something like that… How many classes is that? And is a 3 or 4 sufficient as well?

I read some people saying they can only use it on one class… And from most of those people, they chose Biology. Is that a hard class that is preferred to be knocked down right away Freshman year?

I’ve heard many people who literally slept through their AP tests (schools make them show up the day of the test). I don’t see myself doing that, but if there is NO chance of me using it, and NO harm to my chances, I COULD see myself doing that… Your thoughts? (Be specific. If you think I should work my ass off for the AP Bio Test but slack on the Lit test, let me know.) Do not worry as I won’t slack at all in the AP classes, I am talking about the test. In regards to slacking on the classes, see below #10

Thanks.

Lastly, if I do get accepted and stuff, is there anything else to really worry about in your opinion? I’m not the idiot who gets straight E’s after getting accepted into college, but do a couple of B’s and stuff make anything worse? Please let me know.

Wow, this was an extremely long post. Sorry for the long read, but in my opinion, I asked some loaded questions that can be extremely useful. And my questions weren’t that vague and instead, very clear, so it should be easy to answer.

Please try to answer every question and “sub-question.” And more than one person’s input would be GREATLY appreciated. Please don’t skip over my post because one person gave their input. If you need any more info from me, don’t hesitate to ask on the forum, or send me a message.

If I have any more questions, which I probably will because I might have forgotten some things, I suppose I will just ask in addition.

Thank you VERY MUCH and any serious information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Lurker, i am in high school looking forward to college and hoping to get into Rutgers pharmacy. i am taking Italian, and i would like to drop it because i have already finished my two years of a foreign language. does Rutgers have a required amount of years that you have to take a foreign language or a recommended amount of a language.

^dio2020

It’s two years of a foreign language that is required. I’m sure the more, the better.

I wasn’t able to take French my Junior Year because of scheduling conflicts, and am not my Senior Year either because I have a full schedule.

However, two years should be fine as long as you have well-balanced, challenging, classes.

Still waiting on responses to my ginormous post. Thanks in advance everyone!

Anyone with an answer or response ? :/

You seem to have a lot of questions but ill see if I can answer then all (and if i am wrong about something somebody please correct me). First of all I would like to state that I wasnt accepted out of high school I managed to get in through a school-to-school transfer after finishing my pre-reqs in 2 yrs so I dont know what the SATs scores you should have. But I have heard that the average score that gets into the pharmacy school is 1350 so you seem to be around that range.

And about financial aid to get a good package generally a household of 3 needs to have around or under 21000. I think anywhere above you will have a decrease in financial aid. The first 4 yrs tuition should be around or more than 20000 with room and board but the final 2 yrs should be more expensive.

But there are scholarship offers based on merit.

And about the Honors Program, I dont know which one you are referring to but the one that I know most about is the Honors Research Program, which you cant apply yet until your PP2 spring semester. This is a great opportunity for people who are interested in research and industry.

You should work hard on your AP courses especially biology because getting out of the class is a huge time saver. And obviously you should work hard in college but go out and have some fun too. I know many people that studied all the time but still end up with bad grades. College is a time of management and adapting you cant just memorize everything and expect to do well in every class.

For now focus on high school and if you get in congrats.
