I think it’s asking if you’re planning to continue the extracurricular in college, but I’m not sure.

Ok, this is NOT another chance me question. I’m an OOS (from California) and I want to apply to the Rutgers Pharmacy program. Is my chances of getting in a lot lower than the IS applicants? For those who got in, approximately what percentage of the students in the pharmacy program were OOS and IS? Thank you so much!
I’m so worried that they would automatically disqualify me just because I don’t live in NJ.

Here’s my stats anyways:
670 CR, 800 M, 660 W, 2130 total SAT ( I took it again in Oct and probably did better)
800 Math 2, 800 Biology M, 750 Chem
33 ACT: 36 M, 33 Eng, 34 Sci, 30 Reading, 8/12 on essay
3.7 UW, 4.2 W (I go to a extremely competitive HS)
300+ hours in community service
tutoring job for 3 years
Orchestra since 7th grade

I haven’t heard they prefer in-state that much (you OOS will help balance the budget) but you should seriously consider visiting and take the “bus tour” (BIG campus) before you consider applying. Just check the stats posted for your chances.

Yes, students do need to hop on a bus to change campuses for classes, depending no their schedule. Walking is usually not an option. See other threads about that.

Oh ok thank you gmccr39! I’ve visited Rutgers before and I took the bus tour. After that tour, I just fell in love with that school! :)

I just wanted to know if it is easier to get accepted into Rutger’s pharmacy program straight from highschool or if you just went to Rutgers New Brunswick for 2 years, taking pre-pharmacy classes and than transferred to Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. I’m asking cus my GPA and SAT are pretty low compared to other people who got accepted. (GPA Freshmen - Junior year is 3.6, ranked 29/198 in my school, and got a 1850 on my SATs) I’m currently a Senior taking AP Bio, organic chem, anatomy, and calc.

It’s SIGNIFIGANTLY easier to get into the program straight from high school. Ernest Mario accepts very few transfers; you’re competing with many qualified people who may not have made it in straight from high school for a limited number of seats. Transferring will be tough.

This yr there were about 60 transfers but only a few of them were school-to-school transfers from New Brunswick.

Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy is a wonderful school - a very close-knit community. Good Luck to all prospective applicants.

illusiondestiny: Don’t worry, they wouldn’t disqualify you just because you’re OOS. There are actually a bunch of students from California in my year. Good luck!

Hi, I have a couple questions. Any help on these would be much appreciated :)

When I visited, one of the things I immediately noticed was that the campus was so big and everything was so spread apart that you have to take buses everywhere. This seems pretty inconvenient, especially in bad weather. All of the other schools I’ve visited have a campus with most things within walking distance. In reality, is this in issue?

I have credits from summer classes at Harvard. A- in Writing and Literature (like Expo I think) and B- in Biochemistry. Will I be able to use either of these?

What are job prospects like after graduating with a PharmD from Rutgers? I know about the careers available, but I was wondering how many/rough percentage people get employed, job offers, salary estimation, etc.

What are the benefits of joining Pharmacy clubs/organizations/greek?

Hi, just wondering about something.

Does my High school have to mail in my high school transcript to Rutgers or is the SRAR (self-reported grades from 9th to 12th grades) the only thing i have to send, regarding grades.

[Rutgers | Rutgers Admissions](http://admissions.rutgers.edu/applynow/moreforfirstyearapplicants/requiredcredentials.aspx)
Your school has to mail in the final transcript after you graduate. AND you have to do the SRAR on the Rutgers website.

011lxu,

Rutgers NB has five campuses as you may have noticed. Buses are not a problem as some people make it. There is a bus every six minutes connecting all the campuses with each other. They also have a real time bus tracking online (nextbus.com) which helps you know ahead of time the arrival of your desired campus bus.
Rutgers might seem you big at first. However, once you make friends in your own niche, it will seem a small community. You aren’t going to meet 50,000 people everyday, right? Join clubs you are interested and you are bound to find someone who shares your interests (benefit of state university). So, do not let the idea of “large” drive you away from Rutgers.

You will have to contact Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy regarding it. They might do credit or course evaluation which means how much the summer classes resemble the Rutgers course curriculum. I am pretty sure you may opt of a hum/soc. sci elective with Writing and Literature. Everyone in Pharmacy has to take Expos. Call the department regarding Biochemistry.

Job Prospects are pretty good as of right now. You might have to travel outside NJ-PA-NY for jobs based on what specific career in pharmacy you are interested. Jobs for community pharmacist is somewhat saturated but others are still open. I am not saying there is any shortage out there but graduates are able to get jobs. This is what I believe but may turn out incorrect: health care bill might decrease the salary of pharmacist by 15-20% but will provide greater job security because of increase in the number of patients. That said, if you get good grades, and successfully work your way through college, you should not have any major problems getting job with Rutgers pharmD.

Leisure clubs are major stress-busters. Academic clubs such as pharmacy clubs allow you to get deeper insights into the pharmacy world which you would sometimes not get from classrooms. They have guest speakers who are at respectable positions in the industry, and they offer really detailed information regarding the profession. Greek life is unnecessary unless you want to hang out late night. I haven’t joined any of them. Greek life is there but not any pressure to join them.

Finally, I want to tell you that, if you get admitted into EMSOP, do consider coming here. Pharmacy school has been modifying itself a lot over last few years. They are increasing more interaction between fellow pharmacy students, with Rutgers EMSOP alumni, and people from the industries. However, at the end it all boils down to the student himself. It is the hard work and passion of pharmacy that will lead the way. Good Luck in you college applications!

When is the earliest date to hear from Rutgers about their decision?

alright thanks guys. i have another question. can u apply to rutgers new brunswick and ernest mario school of pharmacy seperately?

When you apply, you have the choice to apply to up to 3 schools so I’m assuming Ernesto Mario was one of the choices as SAS New Brunswick was.

Does Rutgers Pharm accept resumes and recommendations sent to them? I really need to know because I’m doing early action, so my school needs to have enough time to send them out. Also, if recommendations are accepted, is one from the guidance counselor necessary?

Rutgers Pharmacy does not accept any resumes or recommendation. You might take your resume and recommendations with you IF you get called for an interview.
Decision at Rutgers Pharmacy probably happen like this (no responsibility for its correctness):
- Accepted straightaway
- Declined straightaway
- Borderline - you will get interviewed.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to send in a resume? I thought they had places for EC’s and stuff on the online application.
And IMO, recommendations of HS teacher says little about whether the applicant will be able to sustain and finish 6yrs. of Pharmacy. Your transcript and GPA says a lot more, but again this is my own opinion.

my resume explains all my activities better.

I just found out that I got in this morning!
