D just picked up ANT 2410 for her diversity credit class. She wanted out of her cultural diversity in the US because of the 6,000 writing gordon rule component. She's trying to avoid major writing. Anyone had experience with this class or the teacher, Nicolle Sullivan?

My daughter just took that class during summer B (she picked up an anthropology minor this year). She said it was very easy and basically a repeat of Intro to Anthropology. She didn’t have Sullivan though.

^^
Seiclan, thanks!
Easy is what she’s hoping for with this class with the calc 3 and the enriched physics. And, hopefully, no major writing … of course, other than short answers on tests. :)

There is one research paper. It’s not that bad, but it does require some time and effort - the final paper is something like six to however many pages long you’d like (but it kind of has to be longer than six), and you write two one or two page papers before you turn that in outlining what you’re going to do in your essay, research methods, etc. Overall, not bad.

Also, her tests aren’t multiple choice. They’re all long response, small-essay/multi-paragraph answers, and are based on pretty obscure points she brings up in lecture, not strictly on the required reading.

Really? for intro to cultural? Says there’s no gordon rule writing credit, so we were hoping not a lot of writing, i.e. research papers. The other class had 6,000 words gordon rule, and I don’t think she requires as much writing as you are saying sullivan does. Hmmmm…

Ah … no matter. Just pulled up a syllabus for the cultural diversity in the US class (different teacher, but appears the class is run the same way for years). Mandatory discussions on Friday, class participation grade associated with how much you participate (although, it does say you may write your participation down anonymously an turn it in before class, what?!). Double whammy on that one … writing and discussion on a lot of hot button issues. Soooo not my d. She’ll take the 6 page term paper, LOL.
