My son lives in Poly Canyon and they seem to have a severe ant problem. Does the school take the intiative to resolve this, or are the students on their own? Doesn’t seem eco-friendly to have a bunch of them emptying cans of Raid all over the place.

I have no clue. But I want to add that at the North Mountain halls, there are insect and wasp problems as well. It died down since the heatwave but I’ve gotten a few bugbites during the week.

In past years, my son had experienced a few ant problems in Cerro towards the beginning of the year. He told the CA or RA, who informed higher ups. Cal Poly somehow has people that take care of that (maybe spraying the outside?) and then the ant problem goes away. My son had learned not to leave out open food or crumbs and he brings ant motels at move-in, just in case, although hes not had to use them this year.

Yes, they sent out an e-mail to people living in Poly Canyon saying they would be spraying the outside of the buildings. The are definitely some major problems I’ve heard off, not only with ants, but mice as well. However, the maintenance requests have not been being answered, so many people have been trying to fix these problems on their own.

In the meantime, buy some ant stakes for the outside and put also them under the sink and other corners of the apartment. You can also buy non-toxic ant spray now that is meant to use in the kitchen around food. They also have some with an orange base. I have both types. But, yes, spraying around the outside by the school will definitely help. Best wishes!

Yes, they take actually do take initiative to take good care of the buildings since they are relatively new (about 6 year old maybe?). Yesterday morning and this morning, I saw a Terminix truck parked infront of my apartment building (Cerro Vista). I think they were there to do some serious work!
