P.S. Be sure and frame those certificates!! Not every school sends out something like that!!

Hahaha.... :-D My mom wants a frame it and hang it in her room (lol).

I got in, found out today...all my friends had heard by Saturday so the wait was unbearable. Webster is my dream school I am so excited! My Dad text me during science to tell me and I just started crying in science class(like a big dork) in front of everyone.
Anyway if you or your child going there next yr...let me know, cant wait to meet future classmates.

Rachel,

A BIG congratulations!! You bring back wonderful memories for me as I frantically drove to my Ss high school and greeted them after class to tell them that I thought they had wonderful news waiting for them at home!!

SUE aka 5pants

I'm so excited for everyone! I talked to my D today and she is really excited to meet everyone too. Like 5pants said, don't hesitate to ask questions to any of us. I know she answered a ton of questions for me (and still does) :D .

Marianne

Webster is a great school, I'm so happy for all of you!!!!

MT daughter loves it there! Her certificate came during spring break last year (she was out of town). Although I was relatively sure it was good news (due to the dimensions of the envelope), it was an agonizingly loooong wait (6 days) til she got home and opened it.

Marianne, is your D a freshman? I visited the freshman acting class first semester, and I also have a couple friends there...Whats her name maybe I know her?

Oh and I also have a question for 5pants. I read a thread about the whole cut policy and it really scared me. Is it true you can be cut with no warning? Just one day your told "you will not be returning next year". To me thats really scary, I understand being asked to leave if your slacking and not progressing and failing classes. But, some ex-students of Webster Conservatory said that they were not put on probabition, and were shocked when they found out-They said they had no idea why?!! And the reasoning they were given was not valid.
That would blow. Can you imagine being told the year after your jr. year that you wouldnt be able to come back, after all that work. What stinks even more about that is, most conservatory want you all four years at their program. So you couldnt just transfer to another conservatory, you would have to start all over as a Freshman. What a waist of money. Im just a little worried...has anyones child on here who goes to Webster, had a classmate that was asked to leave, or went through this experience? Just wanting to know the odds of this happening. I hear the Freshman class starts out huge and by the time you graduate, its cut in half. That freaks me out!
Thanks for your help...
Oh and dont get me wrong, I am more than excited for next year-I cant wait to start learning and training. I wish I could skip graduation, pack my bags and leave right now!

rpallante,

First of all, congratulations. I know your excitement firsthand!! :)

My Ss had friends in their class who were asked to change majors. Certainly the topic is a sensitive one and because they sometimes deal with personal issues surely you understand that I can not discuss them with you. You should know that if you are eager, have a postitive attitude, and show progress you will have nothing to be concerned about.

I am venturing a guess that Plaidman will jump in and address these questions you have raised. It's understandable to be concerned...but keep in mind that the past heated discussions you read were just that...in the heat of the moment. We sometimes write things as a knee jerk reaction and after stepping back from a situation it becomes clear why things happened as they did. Unfortunately once things are posted on the internet they can not be taken down. It is always wise to think things out carefully before hitting the return button. ;)

Anyway, I am VERY excited for you!! Please email me if I can answer questions for you. BiGismama and Marianne have daughters one year ahead of you...they will be a BIG help for you!!

SUE aka 5pants

Yes, my D is a freshman. Her name is Josie. I am sure she would love to talk to you. She is so excited about the incoming freshman. She posts on here occasionally under Millie_Chittick but email or facebook is a better way to get a hold of her. She will ease your fears about the cut policy I think. I agree with Sue's comment about that issue.

Anyway, get a hold of her and who knows maybe you have already met?
marianne

Hey marianne406 isn't your D trying to transfer to CMU. Is she not satisfied with the training at Webster?

Oh my gosh no She would never transfer! She loves Webster. In fact she should be the poster girl for publicity for them. She was priority waitlisted at CMU last year, but after visiting Webster (and honestly looking at the cost of CMU) she removed her name from the waiting list and went happily to Webster where she has really thrived. She should ring in on this but I'm sure she wouldn't leave Webster for anything.

You must be hearing about someone else.

Marianne your D is so enthusiastic about Webster that I told Byron Grant during my audition that she should go on tours promoting Webster! And she will be my theatre buddy in 6 days when I go visit campus, I am quite thrilled!

Oh okay! Sorry about the mix-up. Man, this makes me even more excited about Webster! Once I get the rest of my letters in I can finally make my decision, but Webster IS second on my list.

Yeah you should email her and talk to her really.

EjSamsonite- I know she is excited about your visit.

Byorkman- you should go too!

to rpallante,

I think Sue (5pants) has given you some good information. The "Cuts Question" does pop up every once and a while and I do wince each time I see it. Your information is a bit incorrect. We do not take in a large class and reduce it down to a specific size for graduation. I have very real questions about the validity of such a concept. I truly believe the each student we accept we accept with the intent and hope they will graduate. We know that is an unattainable goal for a lot of reasons, but that is the reason we are very careful in our selection process and do not have a wait list. We do choose a class with care and look forward to welcoming all that choose us in return. I belive you are one of those.

We do review our students progress regularly. That is important. Growth, good work and professional discipline are very necessary ingredients for a sequence of training. Each student has a meeting with all of the Performance faculty at the end of each semester commencing with May of the First Year. That evaluation and discussion (slight) session is recorded and a transcript of that process is made available to the student. At one of those sessions, if there is concern about growth in an area of training (Acting, Movement or Voice and Speech) the student is placed on Probation and enters into a mentorship relationship with the faculty of that area. The goal is for the student to use the upcoming semester to make appropriate inprovements to remove the Probationary Status. If that is not achieved, then the student would not be able to continue in the program. However, it is impossible for a student to be told not to continue without going on Probation for a semester. This is clearly outlined in the Departmental Handbook. There is no formula, there are no quotas, we try to work with each student individually. We prefer success to failure.

Perhaps I am being a romantic. However, I am absolutly convinced our faculty strive for each student's growth and that is a real and true value of our approach to develop young artists.

I hope this is helpful.
