my son's friend was rejected a few weeks ago. he applied to smeal with a 3.0 and low sat's. he was not aware of the heavy competitiveness of smeal. psu told him he could re-apply, but i am not sure if they suggested UP or branches.

I have a friend who was rejected UP and accepted to Altoona

I know his GPA was a 3.3 and SATs were a 1720 I think.

its good then that i didnt hear yet!

wait tilohnine, was UP his first choice or second? cause i have a friend who put UP down as second and was denied but got accepted to Altoona (her first choice)...choice set up i know but she put it that way ha

No UP was his first choice and Altoona his second.

He's not too happy about it lol.

my son has 1720 with a 4.23... we are hoping at least for summer... good luck to all of you :-) admissions told me that notices will go out this week and probably will continue into and thru january 31 ( for the first round of applicants).

I'll probably be the one who recieves a decision on January 31st haha I am so impatient.

ha ok tilohnine thats good news for us kids who want summer session. knowing people who have UP as their first choice are getting denied already.

yeah my friend got rejected at UP and accepted at a branch campus. luckily he got into pitt and now he loves pitt and hates PSU hahaha.

hahah how did he get into Pitt but not into PSU?

PSU main is much more selective than Pitt. And he applied really early to Pitt. I think his stats were 3.15/1290(M+CR). he wasn't too mad cause he found out about Pitt first and he loves it haha.

wow with those SAT scores PSU must really base 2/3 of the decision on GPA

hope they do weigh more on GPA than scores

^They do. Its on the site and on brochures/pamphlets/info guides I believe

if you are in the middle 50% at this point and havent heard yet i heard that your major doesn't really affect whether your accepted or not, is this true? i could see it being true just wondering what you all thought

What GPA and SAT scores are generally considered "safe" for PSU ?

I would say 3.8 GPA amd 1800+ SAT and you should be in.

I got a letter in the mail saying they wanted my transcript again after this semester is over. But on the bottom it said my PSU number is blah blah blah. Does that mean I'm in when I send my transcript again? I mean they wouldn't give you a student id number unless you were accepted right?

My son also had a friend who was accepted to Pitt and regected to UP and was accepted to Altoona. He had great grades 3.9 and very good SAT's. He also had summer selected. So now I don't think my son will get in. His scores are not nearly as good. It makes you wonder what they are really looking for.

Way2bizenow, it makes me wonder if by putting down an alternate Penn State campus, admissions automatically slots you for that campus since UP is so desirable. I did not put an alternate campus and my GPA is certainly NOT a 3.9 and did not put down summer.....so, I guess we'll see............
