Pitt2009, she found out via mail. A large, thick white envelope arrived yesterday. Based on the size of the envelope we thought she was admitted, but that proved wrong. Admissions sent her the "letter" as well as paperwork for indicating campus choice as well as other info.

DU50MH, she applied undecided, though she would have ultimately applied for admissions to Smeal.

that is a shame that the envelope is deceiving. when my d was accepted a few years ago, there was "congratulations" in larger lettering written near the bottom of the envelope. editor, i know your d will be happy wherever she decides to go. everything falls into place....

i spoke to admissions yesterday and they told me that they never turn down an applicant for admission to the university, always offering a branch as a choice.

yeah. wow i'm right on the bubble and it looks like those on the bubble are getting denied. there are just too many above average applicants this year. :( i still haven't heard-but am expecting a rejection at this point.
i also applied summer DUS, however my stats are slightly better GPA wise than NJ Paladin's

oh ok i applied to the college of education, and although all my stats are right in the range of psu students now, my SATs are the ones that are below average. If i dont get into UP ill probably go to James Madison University since i just got in there

To those of you who were offered a different campus than UP and didn't pick one- which campus did they offer and were they close to UP or where you live? I was encouraged to hear that despite what others have said that they do offer another campus or summer even if you do not list it. That is a little comforting to us who are still waiting to hear and fear that they will be out right rejected as was stated on this board if you didn't list an option. Thanks

anyone know if the envelope still says congratulations if they are offering a satellite campus and not UP? I just want to be prepared. Thanks!

Collegemomof2

My D was denied at UP but offered to attend a branch campus. Large white envelope, Penn State UP return address, no "congratulations" or anything else on the outside.

Envelope contained letter and several forms/brochures on branch campuses.

First two paragraphs of the letter:

"Dear XXXXXX

We have completed our review of your application. While we are unable to offer you admission to the University Park campus for either summer or fall, we would like you to consider admission to another Penn State campus.

Due to the limitations on the size of the first year class at University Park and the exceptionally high caliber of recent applicants, it is inevitable that many good students who demostrate academic success will be asked to consider other Penn State campuses......."

It then goes on to explain the 2 + 2 program.

LTMREM -
She was not offered a specific campus. I assume because she did not list an alternate on her application.

Good luck to everyone

On the application my D did not indicate a second choice campus, though PSU offered her the choice anyway with the rejection letter. It didn't specify specific campuses. You indicate which ones you're interested in.

editor, My stat's are similar to your D's. If you don't mind I was wondering where she has been accepted. I have not heard from any colleges yet so I am stessing

bowerss7, she's been accepted to The Ohio State University, Columbus (and will attend); Indiana University, Bloomington; Univesity of Massachusetts, Amherst, SUNY New Paltz; SUNY Oneonta; Arizona State University. She's been denied at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; she's waiting on University of Maryland.

What schools have you applied to?

I should be hearing from Purdue University very soon and it's my first choice. I've also applied to PSU main, University of Maryland, Clemson, and I will apply to University of Arizona if I get denied at Purdue.

We visited Purdue this summer, but she didn't connect, however, after the information session, we figured she would get in. If you have similar stats I'm sure you'll be admitted.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you! And good luck to you and your daughter!

If this is any consolation to anyone:

Everyday in our accounting class, my friend and I check to see if we've been accepted (...or rejected) into Main Campus. Today, my friend found out he was denied acceptance into Main, but was offered admission to Altoona (Smeal College of Business). He was a pretty well-rounded student- he played varsity football and varsity basketball. He had a strong forte for Mathematics. In fact, he is now taking AP Calc B/C and also took AP Stat his junior year. I'm not sure of his GPA, probably somewhere between a high B or low A. His SAT score was an 1180, I believe. It said he would received his materials in the mail in a few days.

I still have yet to hear.

oh my... that is disappointing, especially if that was his #1 choice. he is taking the same math class as my son.... do you know to which college at psu he applied ?

i aplyed like desember 3, how long afterer janury 31 untill i shood hear??

All of this talk of above-average students being rejected is getting really, really worrisome. :/

An SAT of 1180 is below average for Penn State UP. Depending on his GPA he may have been on the cusp on UP admissions, especially this year with the high # of apps.
