Any Acceptances Yet??

PS I Love U- I understand how disappointed you are. You had school spirit before you even got there ! :-) My thought is this: if you feel so passionate about the school then maybe you should consider going to another branch (altoona? closeby state college) and getting into the college thing there. Meanwhile, you can work your way to State College and come junior year, you will be there and will graduate with a degree from PSU and will part of the Penn State family. It might be worth it.

DU50 - So sorry that you didn't get in. Every year, kids with really strong records apply to PSU main as a safety. PSU knows this and they adjust how many they accept in the overall class accordingly. It's still hard to predict though. I know they had a much higher than expected yield a couple of years ago - and ended up with a seriously overcrowded freshman class. So I think they're being pretty cautious these days.
Altoona is not the ideal option but it does get you there for your last two years. And it's a short drive to the games.

DU50MH...I am very sympathetic to your situation...as that sucks...honestly though...kids with 2000 SATs and higher stats apply there as safties, not just because they wana show other kids up. Honestly, kids who are in that score range show each otehr up by applying to BC, UNC, and other top rated schools. Showing eachother up through college applications is not done through a safety school!!!

Of course all of this is just my opinion, but i honestly think its the truth!

i feel like i should have gotten in if it wasnt for all these applicants this year

DU50MH- I understand what you are going through. I've had a terrible day.... I really do agree with your point of view, I know some kids from my school who just applied cause they could, and then there's us who have dreamed all their lives of going to UP and don't even get accepted.

psualum80- Thanks for your advice. I probably will end up at Altoona. Drexel is an option, but I don't want to go to a city and have that type of college experience. You're right though... In the end, my diploma will say Penn State.

Oh man, you didn't get in? I'm so sorry. I wish that there was some way of getting in when people decline their offer of admission; is there?

the only thing close to your question is a waitlist...and psu up does have one... here is a excerpt from admissions at https://www.admissions.psu.edu/recruitment/volunteers/volunteerconnections/news.cfm

Wait List

In 2007, Penn State implemented a wait list for Penn State University Park. Only about 1,800 students were placed on the wait list with approximately 75 percent receiving an offer of admission to University Park. Because the number of waitlisted students is quite a small portion of our nearly 63,000 undergraduate applicants, you may not receive many questions or need to discuss the waitlist at all this fall. We expect to have a wait list in 2008, but the number of students offered admission from the wait list can vary significantly from one year to the next.

Don't stereotype too much. I have a 2050 on the SAT and its been my dream to go to Penn State and the reason I won't go (if I don't) will strictly be money. I hope scholarships and the financial aid office come through though.

I met some kids who had top grades and test scores, were admitted to UP and turned them down to go to Lehigh Valley campus! After thinking about it, since their degree will be identical to kids who started at UP as freshman, they decided to stay home with family and friends, save money on room and board, and commute to school every day at Lehigh Valley for two years. They also were not turned on by the football stadium and all that stuff. They could've cared less. One girl was a 4.0 and high school valedictorian who chose to go to Lehigh Valley after being admitted to UP.

Once you get into the PSU system you're gold. Don't fret over campuses so much. The 2 + 2 system is unique to Pennsylvania. No other state has anything like it. My D1 is finishing her sophomore year at Lehigh Valley and informed me that she doesn't want to go to UP in the fall. She wants to stay at Lehigh Valley for four years. I don't necessarily agree with her decision, but it's so fantastic that only in Pennsylvania does she have a choice of UP or another campus.

You need to take into consideration however, that most majors require completion at the UP campus. Only a handful can be completed with the classes offered at branch campuses.

wow @ a 4.0 gpa DUS/Summer applicant being rejected. i'm very scared at this point since my stats are lower...and i just found out i was "postponed" for UW-Madison today. i hope i get in though. psu is my first choice!

I got postponed from UW as well, and UW and PSU UP are both my first choices.. i completely feel your situation hah :[ very stressed out. good luck!

Ok... so, today was probably one of the worst days of my life. I didn't even go to school. I sat at home and thought about my options all day long. Now its almost 10pm on the east coast and I am 75% sure I am going to Penn State Altoona. Altoona is only an hours drive away from Main... In addition to that, the campus is slightly larger than most branches! They have plenty of activities, etc. And ya know what... at the end of the day, my diploma will say Penn State. So to those who got rejected, I hope this makes you feel a little better...and hey, we only have 2 years and then we're at main! And maybe the fact that we got rejected is a sign...maybe Penn State isnt the place for us...who knows! Thank goodness for the option of transferring! I believe everything happens for a reason, and in the end, it will all be just fine! :) If anyone needs to talk, I'm here... please feel free to message me as I've gone through tears and frustration, and got over it all in less than a day! Thanks for everyone's input!

I'm considering calling them when I get the chance tomorrow. Has anyone else tried to do this and ask why they haven't heard back after such a long time? I'm getting a little ticked off that they haven't responded, especially today when I heard a girl from my school got admitted a few days ago when she applied in December. Her major was business and we had very similar stats.

PS I Love U, i may be taking you up on that 'cause i'm expecting a rejection any day now haha

neilz, numerous people have contacted admissions. just be patient, they have guaranteed end of Jan.

at this point i must agree with cwryan1...its a total crapshoot as far as who is getting decisons, FOR BUSINESS ESPECIALLY!!!!...various people, including myself, have confirmed that we will hear by the 31...so just be patient! Good luck to all

mkc2100- Crossin my fingers for ya! :)

"You need to take into consideration however, that most majors require completion at the UP campus. Only a handful can be completed with the classes offered at branch campuses." -cwryan1

My D1 is aware of that. She's been a Psych major since day one, which would necessitate going to UP to finish up. So she's switching to Applied Psych, one of the four year majors at Lehigh Valley. Clever girl.

PS I Love U - you are a great student. You will do well no matter where you go and as you said maybe you were meant to start in a smaller atmosphere. Like you, I believe everything happens for a reason. My s did the college search last year and now this year it's my d's turn. She is waiting to hear from PS (fingers crossed). Anyway in speaking to my s's friends and their parents after the fall semester they all said the one thing they wish is that they had stressed out less last year. They all said their search turned out for the best, even when they were crushed to not get into first choice. If I could change one thing it would be that schools looked less at SAT's and more at GPA (which PS says they do). It's all a numbers game in a school as large as PSU, but the only thing the kids that got accepted have that you don't is the ability to take a standardized test better (same with my d). That does not always translate into a better student, but that's life....
