Anyone know if there is a compelling reason to get your deposit in early (if now would even be considered early). I know in the past I have heard other parents say they sent it in right away to be sure they got housing, even if they child hadn't decided if they were going to PSU or not. Of course, I believe the deposit used to be $100 which is easier to risk than the $300 they want now.

Surfbilla, was it it 1100 altogether? Because my friend has 1380 altogether. Also, he
was gonna major in Education.

I'm very happy for all of you who have gotten in, but I'm perplexed.
My D, who has very similar stats, did not.
Hmmmm . . .

The GPA is Weighted.

Also, I am OOS.

KJSNR2009...when you say all together for the sats your talking about a 1380 M CR and W??????????? if this is the case, then nevermind what i said before

I got rejected today. OOS
I have a 90 average overall.
1310 on the SAT's. M & R
I had a great essay and great recommendations.
I am very involved in my school between the Student Council and Varsity Sports. I hold leadership positions as well in those activities.

This definitely came as a shock, I am wondering if any of you feel the same.

^ Wow, seriously?
What state are you from?
I got a 1280 SATs (M+R), but I got into Smeal.
I'm also OOS, but I also had alumni.
Hmm...

My stats were way lower than yours, and I got in. That's...definitely odd. I'm so sorry to hear that. =/

In unrelated news, students don't have to do LEAP during the summer, right? Because I don't feel like I would need it -- I'm pretty acclimated to college-level classes as it is, and I would like to jump right into college life instead of a watered-down version, if that makes sense. I like a challenge, and I don't think LEAP would be one. Is that a problem?

skull were you admitted for summer or fall? if you get in for summer then you have to do summer

editor...what college did you apply to? It's my understanding that Smeal was more difficult than ever this year. Also, Penn State was definitely looking at the third component on the writing section even though a lot of schools are still only using the math and reading. In addition, they are the only one I've heard of that will not take the combined score. It has to be your best of all three at a single day sitting.
I hope your d wasn't too disappointed. I'm sure she'll wind up somewhere and be totally happy!

the 1100 was m and cr, and her gpa was like a 3.8 w i think. its so weird how they decided some of the acceptances

psufan82, my D applied undecided.
She's happily going to attend The Ohio State University, Columbus.

Swoopes -- that's not what I was asking. I was asking if you have to do LEAP if you get in for the summer.

Skullduggery- although not 100% positive from what I heard is that if you were accepted to the summer and not fall it meant you were on that borderline status. Everyone I spoke to said that you have to do the Leap if you want to go to Up in the fall if your acceptance letter was only for the summer. I know it doesn't sound logical or fair.

No, that really isn't logical or fair. I've already taken seven college-level courses and gotten A- or better in all but two! One would think that it proves that I can easily handle a university courseload (especially taking four at one time during my junior year); the only reason my GPA was "borderline" is because I am very bad at math and my gym grades aren't exactly great, either. It's not like I need to be "eased" into college life. I just want to get started already, you know? I hope that doesn't sound too snotnosed.

i just received my acceptance via email today! the status check on mypennstate is virtually useless for "international" applicants. this includes american citizens with credentials from overseas.

3.2 WGPA, 2270 SAT, & extracurricular activities. + optional essay.

I don't think you are required to do LEAP if you go in the summer. You can take non-LEAP courses, if you want. If you look at the schedule for summer, there are plenty of gen ed courses to choose from.

^ Okay, thank you. I'm glad to hear it.

Congrats, Hershey. : )

to retrooo- i am from new york.
i'm not exactly sure what happened, but i'm trying not to get too upset over it. getting into state schools this year from OOS is especially hard. hmph.

when will decisions be release for those of us that applied after priority?
