Any Acceptances Yet?

D1 was accepted to RISD, WashU, Carnegie Mellon CFA, BU and UT; waitlisted at Brown. Her dream was the Brown/RISD Dual Degree program, but I think if you are waitlisted at (or rejected from) Brown, you are automatically out of the running for the Dual Degree program. Has anyone else heard from the Brown/RISD dual program?

^ Same here, austinhills. My dream was the dynamic duo of Brown and RISD, but I too got waitlisted at Brown (grades not high enough? not enough e.c.'s?) and accepted to RISD. RISD gave me a generous scholarship, so that is where I am going. Even though I wasn't planning on going straight to art school instead of to a conventional college, I just can't pass up the whole prettiness and la-la-land quality of RISD. I am not acting out of my sheer euphoria at my acceptance; I have faith that if I graduate from RISD, I will be guaranteed a nice art job. (Well, IF I graduate!)

So it's the end, huh, Brown/RISD. Yeah, it was nice daydreaming over you and allowing my gluttonous side to fantasize over gloating to people that I am going to not one, but TWO colleges. Oh well. I plan on attending a foreign language class at Brown when I am a sophomore at RISD, because I don't know how else I will be able to learn a foreign language at an art school. Yay!

So you're going to RISD for sure, entangled? D1 still needs to decide. She can actually get a dual degree (BFA and BA) from Wash U, but she kind of fell in love with RISD, Brown and Providence when she was there this past summer in RISD's pre-college program.

Also, future summer internships and that first design job out of college are so important, and I wonder which school would provide the most opportunities there? CMU is supposed to be great at that (they bring in hiring managers every February to a career fair called "Confluence" specifically for their design majors).

Tough decisions!! I just want her a) to be happy in college and b) to get a decent job after college.

Congratulations everyone on your acceptances! My son is interested in animation (waiting to hear if he got in for the summer innerspark program). He graduates next year. Can you offer any suggestions as to what he should include in his portfolio to provide him the best success? Thanks!!

some of my friends didn't hear from SVA yet ! whats going on!?

I was accepted to SAIC, MFA in film,tv and new media ~is everybody here the same as me ?

yeah! I will be attending the Rhode Island School of Design fall 2009 (:

Should I go to BU COM or NYU Tisch???

I got accepted into U. Arts, Montserrat, MassArt, and MICA and will be attending MICA this fall!

Rejected from RISD, but it was to be expected. ;D Hometests weren’t that great…not really much of a drawer haha. Graphic design = win.

Been accepted to University of Texas, University of Michigan, Pratt Institute (presidential scholar), School of Visual Arts, Loyola University Chicago, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Fashion Institute of Technology, St. Edward’s University - Austin (presidential scholar), and Savannah College of Art and Design (presidential scholar).

:)

dear byznme: Good luck to your son for next year in his art college search! My son was accepted to MICA/DCAD/CCA/Pratt/SCAD but has accepted MICA with a $36,000 Presidential Scholarship and $20,000 other support.

The best experience he had was attending the National Portfolio Days. He went to the one at MICA. Very organized but because of the long lines at the main schools, he could only visit about 6 schools for review of his portfolio. He went to the schools that he was most interested in so he could have them put a face to his application. Have him prepare his portfolio with his best current work but remember that once he gets accepted, he needs to provide an entire new portfolio for the scholarship review. They don’t want to the same stuff in your original portfolio. More than three reviewers at National portfolio day wanted my son to submit his work in one theme. He is a photography major and they suggested he use one common theme with his work in his portfolio.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to National Portfolio Day (NPD). Visiting MICA’s NPD was great because they had all their Faculty there reviewing portfolios. It went fast and was extremely well organized. We were sent to a room for only Photography majors. The problem at NPD revolved around the visiting colleges. They only would send two (or so) representatives. For example, my son went to Pratt’s line and it was a 2 hr wait because there were only 2 reps. The rep my son met with was obviously a painter who knew nothing about photography. She did not give him any positive feedback and the one pic she liked was MICA’s least favorite. Very disappointed. BUT, the feedback from MICA was fabulous and it is what made him want to go to MICA (not to mention the campus/food/programs).

For the portfolio, we bought a professional portfolio for his pics, size 10x14 that had plastic sleeves. He put about 20 of his best photos inside. He had titles on the pages but it was recommended by the MICA reviewer to leave them out. No titles in the actual portfolio BUT he had an inventory page. He had many copies of his inventory page tucked away in the front pocket sleeve ready to hand out to everyone. The person reviewing his portfolio would take it and staple it to the form you filled out for each college while standing in their line. On this inventory page he had to following information:

At the top of the page was a photograph of his (he used his self portrait, a way for them to remember who he was)…this was meant simply to be similar to a logo at the top of a page, an identifier.
His contact information (name, address, email, phone)
Goal: BFA (Bachelors of Fine Arts: Photography) with the
A list of his art work inside his portfolio to include:Date/Title/Format/Size etc. (he did not include a pic of the art here, just a list)

Anyway, hope this helps. I wish I had someone directing me! It would have been nice since we were clueless.

Good luck!

Lacrosse3mom:
I’m curious to see your son’s work.
Does he have a portfolio online somewhere?

I got into Ithaca’s Park School but i’m going to Elon’s McEwen.

Hello, i know this is kinda a late post, but I’m in kind of a crisis… I was wait listed for Pratt institute, but because they were encouraging people to apply to the 2 year associates degree program, I applied to it and I got an email yesterday morning saying that I got accepted to the 12/FA semester… I thought that that meant I got into the full four year BFA program that I had originally applied for and got waitlisted for, but when I emailed them to confirm, they told me that I had gotten accepted to the two year program… does anyone have their acceptance email from Pratt? because my email seemed like that I had gotten into the regular four year program and I am just confused… also do they take you off the waitlistif u apply to the 2 year program? is anyone has applied to the two year program and got in, what did your email say? if anyone, I doubt, has been in my similar situation, please please help me out!!

Rather than emailing them call the admissions off on the phone first thing Monday. Make sure you get someone who works as an admissions counselor, not a receptionist and ask those questions to that person directly. Then if you’re still confused call again and ask another (different) person the same questions. If the answers don’t match get ahold of the director of admissions. I know everyone is used to email but phone conversations in this case are more direct and informative.

"admissions off "
and of course I meant admissions office
