My daughter applied EA in film production. We thaught that they would release their decision today, December 15, but nothing, nada, no news at all. I was wondering if someone else have applied to this university and if they received a decision. GOOG LUCK !
My D23 applied EA and heard back from them a week ago, I think. Did you check the portal? Seems odd to not hear by now.
Does film studies require anything additional like a portfolio or interview? Just curious if that is a different admissions process that might take longer.
My kid applied EA but with music and did just get invited for in person auditions yesterday. She had to submit a video prescreen. I just assume she won’t get admitted at all until she is through the audition process. Music is pretty competitive so we’ll see.
For film production they don’t ask for a portfolio. We try to reach them but no answer.
Trying to call them now
They said that there were such inflate of applicants that they had to push back the decisions even if most of the applicants received theirs. I’m not very happy with this answer. We will ask the help from our school’s counselor.
It does happen. May D23 is still waiting on one school that has been sending out application responses foe the past three weeks. Personally, I don’t get the “rolling” response strategy, they should just come out on one day. But, some do “rolling”. DePaul might be one of them!
Ok, thanks. If it’s the case it is more understandable. I was worried her application was lost somewhere in the system.
DD finally received her acceptance decision. She’s in with the Presidential scholarship. What a relieved.
Nice!
Congrats!. That is fantastic
DD missed the EA deadline because she debating whether to apply ( she was concerned about the number of commuter students) but urinate it decided to apply due to the excellent film program.
She applied Nov. 28th RD and we have heard that decisions are rolling so we are hoping she hears back before March 1st.
I hope she will hear back soon. I know that they were behind for the EA. We were supposed to hear back december 15. Now we have to research their honors program because they invited my D to apply.
I’m just finding this thread. My child also applied EA to DePaul (CDM - Animation Major) and didn’t hear back by the published 12/15 date.
They also got their decision yesterday!
Admitted with Presidential Scholarship.
Glad your daughter got notice and congratulations!
Now we have to schedule another campus visit (we visited DePaul in October 2021) and look closely at the numbers.
So glad to have the schools’ decisions behind us and the ball is in our student’s court (along with our counsel on costs).
I saw the Accepted Students Event is January 27th all day long. We wrote to the admission counselor to have more info on this event and we’ll decide to go depending on her answer. D23 applied to the Honors program too.
Just checked and saw the same about January 27th. We have a scheduling conflict that would have to be resolved to make that work… the next one for the school that Animation is in isn’t until March 31st. Don’t know if we want to wait that long.
Decisions, decisions.
We just took our plane tickets. The counselor said that DD will have the opportunity to learn more about the major she’s interested in from current professors ; we will be able to chat with Financial Aid, to learn about the campus and ressources for students and we will chat with current students. So we decided to go.
Hello all! DePaul was not on my son’s radar until recently so he might apply RD. Congrats for the acceptances! Wonder if you could help on a few questions:
-will his merit offer be less because he is applying RD? (sometimes priority scholarships go to EA)
-says RD get a decision by March 1st, might it be sooner or will they wait until the exact date stated on the website?
-what is the top merit amount and do they have any extra merit scholarships students can apply for after admission?
-have you received Financial Aid packages and are they pretty generous compared to your other FA offers or about the same?
-how time-consuming is the honors application (multiple essays?) I only ask because my son has applied for several and he is starting to get burned out. Lol.
-do they offer extra $ for honors or are there certain perks to being a part of honors?
His stats/background:
-plans to study psychology (possible minor in Spanish) with end goal PhD in clinical psychology
-4.0 unweighted GPA with advanced and AP
-1450 SAT (750 Math, 700 Reading)
-National Hispanic Merit Scholar
-USA Gymnastics Academic All American
-Level 10 gymnast (not a priority to continue in college)
-Honor band (jazz band, wind ensemble, pit orchestra)-does want to continue in college but not with a huge commitment
-good amount of volunteer work, some leadership in gymnastics and band
-close to fluent in Spanish (spent 2 summers in Mexico doing upper level gymnastics all in Spanish)
College priorities:
-diverse campus
-in or near a city
-small classes
-small to medium school preferred (but open to larger school with an honors program that makes it seem smaller)
He has applied to 15 schools, including North Park University in Chicago (where he received a generous package with potential for more $) but really loves Chicago and wanted to add another college. We are from Buffalo so he is used to the cold
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any help.
I just realized there is a regular decision 2027 thread but only one post there so I’ll still keep my post here too
Hello,
I don’t have all the answers but decision by March 1st means it can be earlier because I think DePaul is a rolling decision. EA were supposed to hear by Feb 1st and most of us received it in December or beginning of January.
Not sure but if the Presidential scholarship is their highest so it’s $24500. This is a merit one so you can hope for an additional need based scholarship later on, in the financial aid package.
FA package arrives usually later, probably because they have to plan depending on who already accepted their offer, and the RD applicants. So EA’ s FA should arrive at the same time as RD applicants.
Honors program doesn’t mean more money, just perks like choosing before others your room, sharing this room with another honor student, some classes that you have to take, closer relationship with teachers… etc. They probably have a link on their website that explains all. Not really time consuming applying, but yes, another essay, perhaps 2, don’t remember, plus something else to send. I think my D sent an art piece and commented on it.
I think your son has great stats so DePaul could be interested in his application.
D received 24500 from DePaul and 29000 from Ithaca. But the tuition are also different so it’s about the same.
I understand the burn out sentiment. My D applied only to 9 institutions and she found it exhausting. It’s also because she’s applying in their film programs and this is always really demanding : multiple essays and portfolio and creative sample… etc. I think if the list is well balanced, and if researches have been done correctly, there is no need to multiply the applications. My other kids applied to 4 the previous years, even only one for one of them, as a transfer to a state university, and it worked very well.
I hope this helps. Good luck to your son.
This is extremely helpful! Thank you so much for your insight! My D19 applied to 9 colleges for music so that was a whole different animal with extra travel for auditions and different steps. We were chasing merit then too, but only a small number of schools offered the major she wanted (popular/commercial/contemporary music)so we were a bit limited, but it worked out well, thanks to some extra research and help from experienced parents on CC. My son will be studying psychology which pretty much all colleges offer (although some only offer the BA option which he is not interested in) so we had a more wide open net and he applied to 16 schools, including the last minute addition of DePaul. In retrospect, it’s probably too much, especially with the honors applications, but he is somehow managing to balance everything and hoping all the work and time will pay off. He has 13 acceptances, including Fordham & Case Western, and he is waiting on Northeastern, Pitt and DePaul. We only have 2 kids, so the end is near on this crazy process. Thanks again!
