any advice for a CAP student going to UTSA?

Whether at UT or UTSA, it is the students’ responsibility to follow the CAP contract (and later, degree plan at UT). A college advisor is NOT like a HS counselor. College students are adults and are free to register for the courses they choose -the flip side is that they are responsible for the results of those choices.

The information about CAP requrements is on the contract and on the CAP website. Before registering at orientation, students should compare their UT degree plans with the CAP contracts to see which courses would be the best to take and also to come up with alternative choices in case those classes are not available.

Why would your friend gt stuck because she didn’t take both writing comp? that is not a requirement. Also, UTSA does not send your transcript! you have to!

30 hours from the CAP list, a 3.2 and one math beyond College Algebra to satisfy CAP. It could be that they needed the comp for the major they wanted.

^ Comp 2 should not be mandatory, I got into Liberal Arts and didn’t take comp 2…I hope she didn’t get screwed over!

Also, not sure if this has been changed but UTSA sends your trasncripts in but just to be safe request one yourself. Enjoy the free transcripts because UT Austin charges $10 a pop.

which one is better between chaparral and laurel? I assume chaparral since its newer?

They are VERY similar. I think they were built within 2 years of each other. Chaparral has a pool and hot tub, but residents of Laurel can use them too.
After living in any of the UTSA dorms, you’ll really miss the space if you live on campus at UT the following year!

Chap is older, but not old. It is also right by the pool and the Cafe. It is also closer to the rec, but Laurel is closer to the academic building which is nice when it rains.

Ali: they must have changed it because they drilled it into our heads at orientation that we had to send it. Maybe I misunderstood, but I am going to request it sent anyways.

^ Good idea to send it in just in case.

Ali, after finally transferring to texas, is UT Austin really better than UTSA i haven’t even gone to UTSA yet, but it seems to me as if it was under-rated, what do you think?

Im pretty sure UT is better than UTSA, the question is / how much better???

yes exactly i’m pretty sure it is, but yes i wonder by how much

To those of you who want to smear UTSA, don’t say anything unless you’ve been there. Personally, UTSA was a good experience, I made many friends and was able to know each and everyone of my professors. Sure UTSA is behind in terms of rankings and prestige, but the fact of the matter remains that students who graduate from UTSA are able to get jobs and get into good grad programs just like UT students.

Not to mention that UT is older, much older than UTSA and has billions of dollars more in endowments than UTSA.

Just sayin’…

Personally, I was disappointed with the way things were at UT (e.g. orientation, advisers), don’t get me wrong its a good school with a solid reputation but I never got the sense that my professors actually cared about my progress (except two professors–my philosophy professor and my UGS professor).

Most of my professors were too busy giving lectures abroad (Daniel Hammermesh) to care or too busy with their research/upcoming presentation.

I guess it depends on if you get into the major you want and what you expect college to provide you.

yes because i was also checking out UT’s housing and it is super expensive compared to UTSA

whats up man,
i just completed my year of CAP at UTSA.

I think the best advice anyone can give you is:

A) focus on your academics. I know several people who severely hurt their chances by slacking off their first semester. Try to get as high a GPA as possible. Don’t settle for a 3.2 (because most people do). The higher your GPA the better you look.

and

B) Get involved with as many groups and organizations as possible (without jeopardizing your GPA, of course). The year will go by much faster if you have awesome friends and activities to keep you occupied.

ps :Also, don’t let anyone get you down by listening to them go on a smear campaign of UTSA. I had a GREAT time and made really good friends. Just because it’s not where you want to be forever, doesn’t mean there aren’t great experiences and things to learn there.

I was wondering if the meal plan can be paid using the installment plan just like the tuition or if you have to pay it in a single payment?

~Thanks

Is there a CAP fee? someone told me today that theres this fee of about a few thousand where you have to pay UT and then once you finally complete CAP that money goes towards your tuition at UT…

I had no clue about this and feel very skeptical… ive never heard of it before.

Im not sure about that but their is a $40 CAP fee if you select UTSA as your CAP school.

There is no CAP fee-only application fees for the initial application to UT and also for processing by the CAP school.

I was wondering if taking 18 hours in my first semester is too crazy? should i just stick to 15? I’m taking freshman composition, MAT 1043, AST 1013, GRG 2613, POL 1013 and i was thinking about adding us histoy/texas history, what do yall think?
