I was deferred from the School of Nursing, which is highly competitive... is there anything I should do to enhance my application/increase my chance of admission?

Yes. Send them an update in a week or two reporting what your grades were (if they were strong or represent an upward trend.) In that letter let them know if you’ve received any recent awards or distinctions. If you have someone special/important available to you who you did NOT already use as a recommendation but who would give a very very strong recommendation, include it hard copy. In your letter, restate what kind of contribution you would make to the school and define what sets you apart from so many other qualified applicants. Restate that Michigan is your first choice, if that’s true, or among top choices, if that is closer to the truth.

Don’t do any of the above willy nilly or repeatedly – just put it all together in a nice, professional package and send it by courier, being sure to have your UMID on all materials. Keep it as short and sweet as possible.

There is always the chance that the extra interest you showed/time you took/new information can be the thing that tips you towards an admit – provided you were already in the admit range.

Good luck!
